I watched The Time Traveler’s Wife a few years ago but The Girl had never seen it. So tonight we’re popping some popcorn and watching it together. I’ve always been a big Rachel McAdams fan ever since The Notebook, so I knew I’d at least like the acting. But it’s about a guy {Eric Bana} that suffers from a rare genetic disorder that causes him to drift uncontrollably back and forth through time, where he meets and marries the love of his life {McAdams}. The movie was great and definitely worth a watch, but I was a bit frustrated at times because I liked their connection and so wanted them to have a happy uncomplicated life together. His inability to remain in one time and place makes a mess of that. I’m curious if I’ll like it any more or less a second time.
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it or what you thought if you have already seen it.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

I love this movie! As frustrating as it is to watch them not be able to just have that uncomplicated happy life together, at least the movie wasn’t as harsh to them as the book was.
Marcia says
Ooh, I read the book, have never seen the movie.
Dale Montgomery says
Loved the movie
Ellen in Clackamas says
I’ve never seen the movie but I HATED the book….so frustrating. I wanted a happy ending!!!!
Tami says
The book is so much better!!
Although – I do get where you are coming from. It does have a sad tenor to it. Clare waits – her whole life is defined by this. The whole book could be, “Clare waits.” But I still love it. 🙂
Deborah says
The book is so much better than the movie. Yes, no fairy tale happy ending , but still a great story.
I was so looking forward to movie , not a great adaption.
Vicki says
I’ve never seen the movie – I’ve heard too many bad things about it. I highly recommend the book, though, if you haven’t already read it. It’s one of my all-time favorites and I reread it from time to time.
Kristina says
The movie was better than I expected, but the book was so much better. Heartbreaking, but so beautiful.
Emily says
I LOVED the book. That makes me hesitant to watch the movie. Have you read the book too?
Torry says
I was recently at a Goodwill and they had a copy and I almost bought it to reread, but resisted at the last moment, because I have so many books that I have never read sitting at my house. Still, it was one of my favorite books ever. And that is why I’ve never seen the movie, because I do not want the book to be ruined for me with a bad movie.

Hated the movie. I get that real life has sad stories…I do. But this was not real life- it was fiction. And the author conjured up this horrible world where they could never be together- and he has to DIE. Why? Why create something so heart wrenching unless its to exploit women…because for some reason we believe that a movie or book that makes us A
SOB LIKE A BABY is a good movie or book. Not me. Give me a true sad story, and I’ll appreciate it. But if I’m going to read fiction? Particularly science fiction ish books? Give me a happy ending. I don’t have time to sob my heart out…if I want to do that I’ll watch the news.
