I came a cross a few pictures of ridiculously large vegetables and just had to share. I keep telling myself that one day I’m going to try and grow a gigantic pumpkin… But maybe an enormous zucchini would be easier.
To date, the worlds largest zucchini weighed in at 113lbs and was grown by Ken Dade in Norfolk, England. Wowza! I’ve heard of zucchinis the size of baseball bats, but 113lbs? That’s just plain nuts. I wonder what on earth the little woman did with all that squash?
Look what else I found…
Lebanese farmer Khalil Semhat, from the southern city of Tyre, grew a Sweet potato weighing 24.9 pounds. That would totally be enough for about 50 sweet potato pies.
And for all you pumpkin growers out there, the world’s biggest pumpkin weighed in at 1689 lbs in 2007 at the Topsfield Fair of Massachusetts. I wonder if he let his kids carve it?
Cool stuff!
Have you ever grown anything super big before? Please tell me you have. I want to know it really is possible.

Holy moly.
My mom’s zucchini’s are as big or bigger than the one under the dude’s arm though (first pick).

I’m fairly certain I harvested world’s largest head of cabbage yesterday afternoon. I didn’t weigh it, but I did take a photo.

Next time send me a picture Lisa. 🙂 Also, I wanted to let you know our free chicken, Crazy Fat has mellowed out a bunch and now eats out of our hand and plays well with the other birds. 🙂 She just needed a good home. 🙂

Zucchinis can get huge overnight! I got some pretty impressive sweet potatoes a couple years ago – not as big as the one in the picture, but still waaaaayyyy bigger than any I’d ever seen in a store. I made two different kinds of sweet potato dishes for Thanksgiving with the one monstrosity.

That sweet potato looks like a dragon’s heart. It looks so gross.
I have grown big zukes, but that is about it for large veggies.

I know it’s kind of creepy!

Weird— I was JUST thinking yesterday that I would love to try and grow one of those crazy HUGE pumpkins next year. How in the world do they get that large????
Angela says
If you are serious about growing giant pumpkins email me your mailing address. I work with a guy who grows them and I can get you free seeds.
Mavis says
Thanks Angela, I got my hands on some giant pumpkin seeds, but I think it’s my growing methods… Not the seeds. I need to read up on it a bit and figure out how to fertilize it correctly to get the pumpkin that big. 🙂

I grew a 13-pound baby in my belly, does that count? :p
