Do you need this in your life? This looks like something Mrs. HB would buy. Mrs. HB…. Do you own one of these? π π π Home Depot is selling it for $3.99 in the grilling section.Β Amazon has it, but it’s like a gazillion times more.
“Increase the surface area of your hot dog for maximum flavor, crispness and caramelization.”
I’m pretty sure I could use a pair of scissors if I ever felt the need to spiral a hot dog. Like that would ever happen.
Orange cream pop flavored snack balls. Mmm Mmm Good. Do you ever wonder who is in charge of coming up with these type of flavors? 8 year old boys who play video games all day maybe?
Now I love a powered doughnut {or is it donut?} as much as the next guy, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that powered doughnut cereal, tastes nothing like an actual powered doughnut. But what do I know? I’m just a girl who would rather eat the real deal.
I was hanging out in the cleaning aisle while the HH was perusing the meat section {for what seemed like 12 minutes} when I spotted a Scrub Daddy Sponge. I asked the guy next to me who was looking at a pack of Swiffer wipes if the fact that the sponge had a smiley face on it would entice him to spend $3.99 on an orange sponge.
The guy {who was like 50} just looked at me like I was a total nutter, mumbled something inaudible and walked away.
HH: What did you say to that guy? Why are you talking to him. He probably thinks you were hitting on him.Β
Mavis: OH PLEASE! He did not.
HH: Stop talking to people.Β
Mavis: Stop taking so long to look at meat you aren’t going to put in your cart!
Cauliflower crackers. Now there’s a product I’ll never buy.
Market Basket $42.73
The only thing I put in the cart was ice cream and the mozzarella balls. I don’t even know why I bother to go food shopping with him anymore. It’s like shopping with a teenager.
I have absolutely no idea what kind of meat this was but it had been sitting in the freezer for the past year and blah blah blah I fed it to my husband and he ate it and that’s all I have to say about that.
The Girl and I found a good bagel place.
And the HH made chicken and weenies. Again.
This times 3 nights in a row.
Taco night.
And last but not least, summer veggies, they’re starting to roll in. Finally! π π
Did you plant a garden this year? Are you picking tomatoes yet? Curious minds want to know.
Have a wonderful Monday everyone. Try and stay cool today, word on the street is it’s going to be another hot one.

There was a donut cereal in the early 80s when I was little. They were good. Dad still requests it to this day even though we all know it’s no longer available. I don’t buy cereal anymore except to make party mix during the holidays. But if I did, then I would totally try a box of this to see how it compares to my memories.

Gardening, yes, in south Texas it is all over. We are in the OMG its hot, like 100s and no rain till hopefully September. So the garden is done, its our winter here, no growing at all. Starting to plan my fall garden. Since we have no real winter I can usually go all of your winter with something growing out there.
Andrea Haywood says
I’m so glad you posted those cauli crackers lol! I can’t eat wheat, and while I usually make homemade seed crackers, it’s nice every once in a while to splurge on something I don’t have to make. $3.99 at iHerb! Thanks π

They are actually pretty good, lol. They have some cauliflower puff things too that are good
Kim says
If anyone needs to eat gluten free, I recommend the cauliflower crackers. Much better than some stuff I’ve tried.

I just read about this peach cobbler. Looks easy and delicious.

We also have the hot dog spiraler thingie. Itβs actually kind of cool and the kids like it.

I love my Scrub Daddy. Gives me a smile every time while working in the kitchen, even when I’m grumpy. Originally
a Shark Tank idea I think.
Anne Wiebe says
The Scrub Daddy is pretty cool! It’s hard and very scratchy when it’s dry, and soft and pliable wet. PLUS the eye-holes are great for cleaning a long round wooden spoon handle, and the smile-hole is good for cleaning concave things like the spoon part.
Helen in Meridian says
The Scrub Daddy get firm when put in cold water and soft when placed in hot water. They are a melamine type of thing, no odor, and last a good long time.
Mary Neathway says
pretty sure you are right about the Shark Tank (or the Canadian version- Dragon’s Den- and I think it’s now a huge success…

We need rain, rain and more rain in central Alabama, I think I will just stand out in it when it does. Itβs rained all around us, I have watered tomatoes, peppers plants and have been pleased with the veggies. Our squash and zucchini has really produced, our okra not so much. We are blessed to have a lot of smaller homestead farmers selling so we have bought veggies to freeze. I have cut veggies to the point my elbow hurts and I love it.
Have made zucchini relish and to more to do, have roasted tomatoes, garlic and onion and made tomato sauce which I froze. Today will be peaches, because we are getting more this week. Making zucchini bread today, also. My freezer is getting full, itβs a labor of love knowing itβs all fresh and we will have this bounty to enjoy this winter. Almost forgot about the peas, pea shelling and some we bought already shelled. A little pricey but well worth it knowing we are supporting local farmers.
Samantha Fisher says
I picked our 1st red cherry tomato yesterday, and I’m in Central Illinois. We too really need rain. Hasn’t rained in 2 weeks. I’ve gotten some green beans and a few cucumbers. Still waiting for zucchini! π
p.s. – your blog cracks me up! π

I am in zone 6b and it has been one weird year. Eggplants? Doing great. Finally starting to get a bunch of tomatoes, but it seems to be a couple weeks behind. Have yet to see a cucumber. Garden looks lovely but production is off. We have had a lot of cloud cover, and I wonder if that is why.
Ellen in Clackamas says
Iβm in the PNW and have picked a couple of Early Girl tomatoes…but no cherry ones yet..weird. The plants are loaded though so the will probably all ripen the same day! Iβve picked a couple of regular cukes and several lemon cukes. One zucchini so far.

My brother in law uses a knife to cut his hot dogs. Tell your husband an oncologist (mine) says only red meat twice a week, no more. People will buy any crap and that cereal would give me a toothache.
LaToya says
Thanks for the tip on that ridiculous hot dog thing. It was $2.98 for pick up at my local Home Depot. Got one for the husband for Christmas (stocking) and one for my nephew who has a toddler and may like it too?
I also picked up that Hostess Donettes cereal for my son. It hasn’t been opened yet but I had some coupons that I paired with a promo at Fred Meyer which made them 99-cents. I bet they will taste better dry for a little snack kinda like popcorn.
The Scrub Daddy was on Shark Tank … it’s made something like $50 million since then. Smiles sell – LOL
We aren’t picking tomatoes yet. We have zucchini, cucumbers and cabbage growing like mad. Also some red potatoes and carrots that popped up on their own from last year.
I made a fabulous chicken vegetable noodle soup this weekend using produce from the garden and leftover/going bad produce in the refrigerator plus 2 pieces of roasted chicken leftovers in the freezer, and some vermicelli that my mom gave us.
Jan says
lol on the hotdog spiralizer…I saw a hack for this, which is simply pushing a wooden skewer all the way through center of meat, then roll on cutting board, using a knife to cut in spiral fashion. I bought 100 wooden skewers for 75 cents at dollar store…
And no, I’ve never spiralized a hotdog…haha
Rebecca in MD says
I have been picking tomatoes for a few weeks now here in Maryland. I have frozen 4 quarts of sauce made with cherry tomatoes in the crockpot. The Roma tomatoes and heirlooms started coming in this week, and I have a big batch that we picked last night to process today. I also canned 4 pints of pickled jalapenos last week. I have a lot of pepperoncini peppers to pick and pickle this week. The onions have been cured and put in the pantry – – – probably about 20 pounds of red and yellow onions.
Not doing so well is my eggplant – – – have only gotten one thus far!
Debi says
I did not plant a garden this year… there were baby bunnies growing in it and when they were big enough to leave the nest it was too late to plant. BUT… for the second year in a row I have squash growing in my compost pile. Last year it was spaghetti squash… it’s anybody’s guess what kind is growing this year!

I’m laughing so hard at you talking to the guy in the cleaning aisle! If you move to the deep south….talking to strangers in stores is the norm! I talk to people all the time….and they don’t think I’m crazy! Cause everyone does it! It took me a loooong time to get used to that when we moved to AL, but now….it doesn’t bother me at all! My kids….we’ll walk away, and they ask, “Who was that, Mommy?” “Idk!” “Do you know them?” “Nope!” “Then why were you talking to them?” Lol! Because….everyone is crazy, so we join them! π Sometimes I DO pray that I won’t see ANYONE I know in the store before I head in. Cause sometimes I’m feeling too introverted to even deal with people! (Our walmart JUST added pickup….sooooo….that might be what I do on those days! But then wm uses their best and nicest employees at the pickup….so there’s strangers that want to chat. Lol.)

Hi Mavis,
I’m in a suburb West of Boston that is more urban than suburban (multi-family houses close to one another). That means small yards and everything edible in my garden is in containers. I have a bumper crop right now of Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes. My heirloom tomatoes are huge but still bright green. I have harvested about a dozen zucchini so far but now the plants look like they are dying. My snow pea plants are producing well. My cucumbers have only yielded two decent sized cukes so far. I planted pumpkins in the ground since we don’t plan to eat them – dozens and dozens of flowers and leaves like elephant ears but no pumpkins in sight – not even a tiny bud. A gardener friend of mine said I might have only male or only female flowers and nothing is getting pollinated. What can you tell me about that, please?
Carla says
Pumpkins have both male and female flowers on each plant. There may be a problem with pollination, like you don’t have enough bees in your garden. Here’s a web site that tells you how to hand pollinate your pumpkins, if you want to go that route. http://www.pumpkinnook.com/howto/pollen.htm
Also, next year, you might think about planting flowers that attract bees to your yard. They will be attracted to the flowers then fly off and pollinate our pumpkins.
Also, I notice that ants must pollinate my zucchini squash (related to pumpkins) because I always see ants crawling around the flowers. Other insects can pollinate, too. Good luck.

It’s been super hot in south Texas. My tomatoes I planted in the spring are done and getting ripped out this week. I’m prepping some more beds this week and will set out my fall tomato and peppers seedlings this week or next. They say next week is supposed to be hotter than this week; I’m REALLY looking forward to fall.
Pam says
Ya’ll do know scrub daddy isn’t a regular sponge, don’t you? If you use them with cold water they stay hard and abrasive, and get soft in warm water. I actually use and like them, just wish they would stay harder longer!!!
Jan says
love the Scrub Daddys!!! Yes, cold water hardens the material & it works fantastically if you have to have an abrasive that doesn’t scratch…great on casserole dishes with stuck-on foods..actually it’s only one of two items I’ve purchased that was ‘seen on tv’ that works!! The other was OxiClean, way back when it first came out.
I wish I’d been the one to discover these magical items…lol

*stop taking to people* haha hahahaha sounds like my once-teenage offspring!
Northwest Washington above Bellingham, tomatoes are on the plants but not yet ripe. Yellow βGoldyβ zucchini producing like mad! Maybe cause Iβm impatient and am picking them at 4β. βBlack Beautyβ zucchini just starting to produce. Weird because all 8 zucchini starts, same size, transplanting same day within a few feet of each other so same conditions.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a yellow summer squash with skin as soft and tender as green zucchini?

Anyone have any tips on knowing when βMidnight Snackβ black cherry tomatoes are ripe? Other than biting one?
