Yesterday, the HH and I headed to the town of Scarborough, Maine to check out a shop called The Cheese Iron. And let me just say this… if you are even remotely interested in cheese or salami, you need to make a trip this place. Like pronto.
Specialty food store, doesn’t even begin to describe the place.
Anything you could ever want for an amazing charcuterie board or picnic can be found here.
Meat, cheese, wine, crackers, spreads, sauces, marinated vegetables, candy, chocolate, pasta you name it. The Cheese Iron in Scarborough, Maine has it. Plus, if you call ahead, they’ll put together a charcuterie board or a party platter for you.
The store was so overwhelming, we ended up just ordering lunch {ham and brie on focaccia bread with roasted peppers}. As we sat at one the tables in the shop we could began to make a game plan for our next visit. Seriously, this is the kind of store you need a game plan for.
I think we’ll be headed back there next week though because after all, according to my big list of goals for the year I still have 6 more wowie zowie party platters to make. That’s practically one a week until the end of the year! It will be a sprint to the finish line, but a tasty one at that.
And in case you were wondering, the sandwich was aPERFECT 10, AND the price tag was only $8.95. Let me tell you Bob, it was a million and two times tastier than the $14.50 sandwich we had in Vermont last year that my husband is STILL comparing everything too. 😉
The Cheese Iron in Scarborough, Maine… Check it out!

Yes Mavis! This is the good stuff!!! I spy some of the cheeses my husband ages for a living, which of course I am partial towards. In non-New England cheese see if they have Rush Creek Reserve from Uplands Cheese in Wisconsin. It is SO lovely and delicious, I search one out each year (its seasonal). Completely worth the price in my soft cheese loving opinion. A good cheese shop is worth its weight in gold!!

I recommend Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese, also from Uplands cheese from Wisconsin. It would be perfect for a picky bits platter.
