Yesterday while the HH and I were out driving around, we passed by a honey stand alongside the road. The stand was so cute, I had him turn around so I could check it out. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely adore the little produce stands home gardeners set out at the end of their driveways. I always feel the need to stop and see what they are offering.
But a stand solely dedicated to honey? How cool is that?
We ended up buying the “variety pack special” for $20 and cracked open the bottle of amber honey last night and had some with a little brie cheese and crackers. The honey was wonderful, and I felt so lucky to have happened upon the little honey stand while we were out for a drive.
So if you ever find yourself driving around Kennebunkport, Maine, stop by The Bees Knees and get a jar or two of honey. You’ll be so glad you did. 🙂
Have a great day everyone,

I love Kennebunkport. Best ice cream is at Rococco.

Mavis, do you plan to have a veggie stand again?
Mavis Butterfield says
If we have enough extra veggies I might do something… Still not sure yet.

I love that! My family’s trips (1960-1970) involved many stops at stands at the end of the road with the honor system where you paid in a can or jar and took their product. I remember flower bouquets, melons, corn, firewood bundles for camping, and veggies. My favorite was a big barn on the side of the road in eastern Washington where we annually stopped to take a big box of apples with us to our family gathering to share with cousins. I can still close my eyes and remember the smell of the sweet apples in the cool barn after a long drive in a 1962 Impala with the windows down because NOBODY had AC. There’s just something about being trusted to take what you pay for. It’s a great feeling and so aptly named the HONOR system.

To this day, the best, most glorious peaches I’ve ever tasted were purchased on the honor system at the bottom of an elderly woman’s driveway. She waved at us from her front porch. They were perfectly ripe, so sweet, and so ridiculously juicy my friend and I had to sit crossways in the front seat of the car, with our feet on the ground, so the juice could drip down our arms onto the grass. She charged $1 for four peaches. We bought all she had, ate ourselves sick and left her 5X the asking price. Worth every penny.

My Mom lives on that road but I must admit I have never stopped at the honey stand. Definitely will next time!
