Well, it was another great week for finding treasures at the beach. But instead of showing you all the cool shells, rocks and super rad random things I found to bring home, I thought I’d show you all the weird stuff I came across while walking on the sidewalks and down on the beach this week with Lucy. Some surprising… and others, well, not so much.
4 dental picks spotted on the beach this week.
17 masks on the ground this week. That’s a new record.
32 single shoes, flip flops, or sandals that were left behind. {Yes! I count this stuff}
Beauty and the beach?
Hmmm.
Double hmmm.
Poor Granny. I hope she has another pair.
Lucy’s best find of the week… crab legs! Yum Yum. And yes, she ate them. 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone, keep those eyes peeled. You just never know what you might find.
Peace Out.
~Mavis

Be careful with her eating crab shells. Our dog did that once and got violently ill. We were pretty sure that he wasn’t going to make it through the night.
Deborah says
Yep, some weird things on the beach. I’ve seen syringes with needles attached. Scary. And other things I don’t want to post. Just gross! Some people are just too much.
Meg C says
Do you bring a bag/gloves with you when you go to the beach? To pick up the litter you find & properly dispose of it so that it doesn’t end up in the ocean or in wildlife bellies? We live in a urban-ish area & when we walked to/from preschool with the kids we would pick up litter to help keep the neighborhood clean (when possible)
Margaret Hudgins says
thank you for doing that!!!
Cindi says
I’d have probably taken the knife home and washed it. What is up with people throwing all those masks around?
Brianna says
Yes I have seen lots of masks and nitrile gloves laying around. It is one think to accidentally drop or loose them, but I doubt that is the majority. It makes me frustrated at the mindset it is ok to litter those and all the increased packaging and plastic everywhere.
Pauline in Upstate NY says
I’m with Cindi on the knife — looks like a Cutco paring knife, which is quite decent. Should clean up just fine.
Teresa says
I believe that is a henkles knife. German brand. You can tell from the emblem on it. I would have taken that home for sure. I agree with the idea of picking up as you go, less trash for everyone. I love our beaches, sometimes the people not so much.
Tarah says
Would totally have taken the knife. That’s the kind we have at home and I love them.
Idaho girl says
I also would have grabbed the knife too! Looks like a Henckels to me!
tia in boise says
IF i had gloves on me or a plastic bag (or lived close to home and could run and get them)….i would have picked up that knife AND the polka dot mask and those cute glasses (hoping they are just magnifiers)–washed all in hot water and bleached.
i knew just from reading the title of your post–before it even finished loading–that i would love it! thanks for continuing to be YOU!
what is it with those dental picks?!!! i see at least one on every run/walk (and think of you, grossly)! if i ever see someone ditch one of those, i swear i will stab them with it!
Deb says
I was with you on this for a long while. I kept wondering why folks were flossing their teeth while out and about. My daughter told me it is that people who chew tobacco use the picks to get the stuff out from between their teeth after a “chew”. Just gross…both the chewing and the littering. 🙁
Nancy says
Two guy friends of mine walk the beach every morning with a bucket and a long claw handle thing they pick up all the trash and you would not believe all the stuff they find!! Makes me so mad some people are such pigs!!!
Mary Lou says
That is such a beautiful way to show appreciation for our environment. Hopefully, other regular beach walkers will do the same.
L. Bryant says
Hi Mavis,
Oh how i wish I could walk on the beach at anytime. When we can get there i bring one of the long handle pincher tools and i walk and collect the trash (we stay at a very remote beach area so 99% of the trash is washed in). I just fill the trash bags and put them in the garbage. My reward from mother nature for helping over years of doing this is observing baby turtles hatch one night.
As active as you are I’m sure if you mentioned it to your new neighbors it could become “a thing that everyone does”
Rita says
I would have kept the knife. It can be sterilized. Why are people tossing their masks? Have the tourists arrived yet?
Amy says
From the time my grandson was very small. I would pick up trash on the side of the road and put it in the bottom of the stroller while we were on walks. Now he is two and every time we are out for a walk he yells, “trash” when he sees it. We have A LOT of trash on the side of our roads. Our stroller basket is always very full by the time we get home…sadly. Except during our shut down quarantine period. Nice clean roadsides for a few weeks.
Nanci in Nevada says
People take those “disposable” floss picks literally. I see them everywhere. What’s the matter with people? How hard is it to find a trash can? Grrrr….okay, rant over.
Sandra G. says
Okay this has nothing to do with the topic but if it gets to were there is a heat bubble here are the two shows our family has discovered both of these are classical designed cartoons.
Mighty Mike a pug who fights raccoons with help from a 3 turtles and the girl dog next door it is from France and inspired by Tom and Jerry. location universal kids
next show is Marsh and the bear very interesting adventures of a little girl who lives in the forest and her activities with a bear. It is from Russia also located on Universal kids.
Idaho girl says
I also would have grabbed the knife! Looks like a Henckels to me!
Linda Practical Parsimony says
The knife would be mine! Masks can be washed. I would have to pick up trash on the beach with a grabber and toss it.
Diane says
I don’t think I could bring myself to wear a stranger’s mask, even after washing in hot water. Just seems gross. Like washing their toothbrush and then using it. Yuck. But I think I would’ve picked up that Henckels knife and run it through the dishwasher a couple of times! 🙂

Mavis, I just went back through the archives and through trial and error found where you wrote the 4 letters about deciding to move again. Your new house looks SO much easier to manage. I know you loved the old house, but feel sure that your new home will not own you like the old one did. I’m so happy to be reading your posts again. I feel like I’ve come home, too. So far, the server hasn’t kicked me out.
Granny B says
The funny thing is when I first saw the knife I thought, I hope she didn’t touch that and get her fingerprints on it as it could be a murder weapon!! LOL
Margaret Hudgins says
I thought of Mrs. Hillbilly when I saw that picture of the disposable pic. lol
