Have you heard the news? The Costco pumpkin pies are back!!! My neighbor sent me a text asking me if I wanted one and I was like YES PLEASE! The HH was so excited.
We have no idea what “Candian white” means. This has to be an East Coast thing. To us it just seems like a higher quality white bread. Anyone have a clue?
Ham and eggs.
Pasta with {Rao’s pasta sauce of course} and garlic toast the HH made. He asked me how it tasted, and I was like… it’s good. But when he asked a SECOND time I was like… it could have used more butter. Why he feels the need to ask the same question multiple times when it comes to food and then freak out about when I critique said item, it I’ll never know.
Grilled cheese sandwich. Because that’s what you eat when it’s lunch time and only 62 degrees outside. 🙂 Fall…. I am SO READY for you.
Dinner, with the neighbors. A real meal, with sides… can you believe it?
I probably don’t have to point out that our neighbor dished up the blueberry pie I made while I sat yacking away in the backyard. I stand firm in my belief that homemade pies should be cut into 6 slices. Not 12. 🙂
Frozen burrito.
Anniversary dinner. I KID YOU NOT. This is what my husband served me for dinner. 26 years people… 26 years! I don’t even know what to say.
Big salad. Lettuce, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, goat cheese, dried cranberries and apple.
I tried out a new chicken recipe {and the HH had 3 servings!}. I’ll share the recipe tomorrow.
Another big salad. This time with bacon. YUM YUM YUM!
How are things going in your neck of the woods? Are you starting to get cooler temps yet where you are? Are you ready for soup and casserole season? I know I am.
Have a wonderful Monday everyone,
~Mavis

I think the Canadian bread is so named because, and I’m just guessing here, it is made with Canadian flour. Our flour is superior to the US flour or so I’ve been told by my friend who always takes a twenty pound bag with her when she heads to her winter home in the southern states. I also note that my bread machine recipe book has an American and Canadian version of each recipe.
Cheryl says
You got a big fries though. No pie or cake?
Carole says
Today, 113 heat index in South Texas, all I’m sayin
Rita says
Maybe it’s Canadian wheat? The stores here sell Montana wheat.
Mavis Butterfield says
That makes sense!! Thank you.
Leslie Moss says
As Lynda above said it’s Canadian wheat, which is superior. Back in my days of cooking EVERYTHING from scratch, I would jaunt up to Vancouver BC to get my wheat to grind. CAN wheat has higher protein % and lower humidity than US wheat (though Montana wheat is the best you can get in US and is close 2nd to Canadian wheat). CAN wheat produces light, fluffy wheat for baking products and has a better taste.

It’s cooled down a little. Now the highs are in the 90’s! I’m cracking up at your anniversary dinner
Nancy says
Did y’all maybe have a first date or anniversary dinner early on from McDonald’s? Maybe he was trying to be sentimental? I’m very jealous of those temps! Enjoy!
suzanne says
Happy Anniversary! Do you not bother growing lettuce? I don’t recall seeing it on the drone shots.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, in early Spring. I pulled the lettuce about 6-7 weeks ago I think. I should plant some more now that the temps are cooling down. Thanks for the reminder.
Laura says
Speaking of gardening, I planted 200 tulip bulbs last fall and they were beautiful! i followed all the tips online to help them return next spring, but I’m not sure it will work. I want to be sure i have tulips so should I just cross my fingers or should I purchase and plant more? I’d have to do a different color so I could tell the difference between the two plantings though. Any advice?
Mavis Butterfield says
Have you seen a bunch of squirrels hanging around the tulip area? If not, I think I would wait until next Spring to see if they nabbed any.
Laura says
I think the squirrels only nabbed a couple of bulbs. But what are the odds the tulips will grow back? most companies say they are not necessarily meant to return each season.

Mavis – – 46 years for us on Aug 24th
Because of covid we had Dick’s hamburgers and ate in the car. I love him more now, he’s a keeper
Mavis Butterfield says
Dick’s Drive Inn has the best burgers! I’m jealous.
KC says
Congratulations on 26 years!
(and I’m an 8-piece slicer, personally. I could see 12-piece for a *really* terrifyingly rich pie, but fruit pie? Nope.)
Beth says
In Boise yesterday and today are cooler which is nice but the temps are going back to the 90s starting tomorrow- boo! I’m ready for fall weather and it will start getting cooler at night soon..but not soon enough! I’m ready for soups and fall foods and I’m over hot temperatures…
Mel says
We’ve been going nonstop lately, so I spent most of yesterday baking bread so that we can have lunch and dinner options. I made 3 loaves of French bread (for French toast, garlic bread, pizza, etc.), 2 loaves of country white bread (for sandwiches and toast), hamburger and hot dog buns for grilling, and pecan pie bars for dessert.
I somehow never realized our anniversaries were so close! I’m getting an air fryer for our anniversary on 9/7, and I’m absurdly excited.
Kaia says
I bet you’d rather have McD’s than BBQ at this point!
Marcia says
if that’s what I get for my 26th anniversary (in 2 years…) just no.
Elise from the SF Bay area says
I doubled over my computer laughing at the anniversary dinner picture, so I had to explain it to my 14 YO. Her response was “I hope he at least got her a milkshake” LOL But I see water droplets on the lid, so she is now disappointed in him. But, yeah, maybe better than BBQ?
Mavis Butterfield says
Tell her it was a Sprite. I drink maybe 1 a year. 🙂
Janet says
I sure would not complain about McDonald’s for anniversary dinner. Any dinner I didn’t have to cook is a treat to me. We have been married 35 years. I would appreciate anything.
Veronica says
I cut pies and round cakes into 12 slices so each of our 6 family members can have 2 pieces – 1 the first day and 1 the next.
Annette says
Let’s hear the explanation for McD’s. I know it will be good.
Jim Doolittle says
No Idea on the Canadian white, except for the “most awesome bread around” title. It’s the most excellent sandwich bread, outside of a Pigs Fly store! 26 years, that’s awesome, good for you guys :)! I hope that you all are healthy and doing well!
Alli Aplet says
Pray for us in Northern California, it is so smokey here with all of our fires in our poor neighboring counties and hot, hot too!
Nancy E. says
Praying, Alli! We’ve had a lot of the smoke out blowing out here in Colorado; I know it must be awful there. I’m from Santa Rosa, CA, and cried along with my family and friends whose homes were threatened, and some lost, in 2017. I’m so sorry for the situation there.
Alli Aplet says
Thank you Nancy E. I am so sorry to hear about your family in Sonoma County. We are right above them in Mendocino County, we also burned in 2017 in Redwood Valley and then my sweet Mama lost her home in the Paradise fire in 2018! I grew up here and don’t ever remember a time like these last 10 or so years, so hard!
Laura L. says
Hi Mavis and Happy 26th! ☺ As for your anniversary dinner, at least HE made it for you which is more than my DH would do…..he doesn’t make or cook squat, so I’d say that you’re one lucky woman.
donna R says
Our first date was to a movie and McDonalds..he asked me what I wanted for food and said he would buy me anything. I told him I thought he was rich..and that is why I married him…ha..19 cent hamburgers. We made it 51 years..he passed last year..
