My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
The stink bugs are back… Good thing I’ve got the bug catcher on speed dial. 🙂 Other useful things the HH did this past week: Watered the plants, sanded a few ornaments, mailed packages, and made a delicious turkey soup. I think I’ll keep him.
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.Â
While Miss Puggle Love and I didn’t find any treasures to bring home from the beach this week we did get some good walks in. Also, I declared last Friday and pajama day and watched about 8 episodes of House. 🙂 It was a good week.
Goal #3 – Get Organized
September Goals
- Finish all Christmas ornaments {about 98% done}
Finish at least 1 rug{done!}Pull everything together for turkey rug{done!} Started hooking. 🙂
I only have 3 more ornaments to glaze and fire in the kiln and then I’m done with making ornaments and garden markers for the year. It feels good to know I can concentrate on rug hooking now as there are SO MANY rugs I have been wanting to finish/hook these past few months but just haven’t been able to squeeze in the time to do them.
With a little luck, I might have this turkey rug finished by next weekend. 🙂
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows. Done!
This is the tutorial I used in case anyone is interested. I decided not to make any shades for the sunroom windows. All that sunlight…. it’s too beautiful to cover up.
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over {Done}
I cut down a sisal rug {that The Girl and I found earlier this summer} to fit the spot where my writing desk sits which turned this little spot in the master bedroom into a nice space to work on the blog in the mornings. Plain and simple, light and bright. Just the way I like it.
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update Done!
Did I mention I am done with house projects for the year? 🙂 I am so glad we changed the hardware on the cabinets from brushed nickel to black as I think it made a huge difference.
Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden Done!
Currently waiting for the Black Futsu Squash to ripen and turn orange. They are supposed to weigh about 3 pounds, so weight wise, we are getting close.
Goal #8 – Explore More of MaineÂ
The only place I went this week was over to our neighbor’s house and the beach. 🙂
Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Done!
We had dinner with our neighbors! 🙂 And had a yard sale. And I think that will be the extent of my social calendar for the year.
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 BooksÂ
I listened to The Dutch House on audiobook this past week and it was WONDERFUL. A 10 if you ask me and the best book I have read {listened to this year}. If you haven’t already read it, you should check it out.

Goal #11 – Learn A New Skill or Craft Done
I learned how to make swizzle sticks with my neighbor last week and I think they turned out great for my first try {you can see the kiln pictures here}. I think I want to try making a beach themed nightlight next. 🙂
Goal #12 – Visit 12Â Museums, Historical Homes or Botanical Gardens {and bakeries too!}
The year started off great… we were visiting a lot of new places and then things just sort of fizzled out. And well, now fall is nearly here and all I want to do is stay home and hook rugs. 😉
I did wander over to the neighbors house though at least twice last week, so that counts as getting out, right? 😉 They have had a very productive summer this year canning all sorts of goodness from their garden. Hamburger relish, pickles {including mustard pickles} just to name a few.

Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning {for 2}

Hi Mavis!
I’m looking for a chair for my desk. Where did you buy your desk chair?
Thank you!

What a TON of accomplishments!!!! You are an inspiring example! Your house has had such a nice makeover.
In regard to the rugs you will be hooking, are they for your shop, or are any for your walls?
Clever idea to cut down that rug. Did you bind the edge in some way?
Thrilled to mention that here in TX, we are finally having autumnal temps.
Mavis Butterfield says
I will be hooking rugs for my Etsy shop… but I do have one that I plan to hook for my living room wall once I get the Etsy ones finished. 🙂 And hooray for autumnal temps.

Every time I think I might be done sewing face masks, I get more requests, so I’m mostly working on that. I did a batch of 13 last week, and I’m halfway through another batch of 14.
I haven’t reorganized our holiday stuff as planned, but I did decorate for Fall yesterday.

Heh. Goals? This is my first year doing a garden, and the housemate created a Chaos Garden. Spacing? Labelling? We know not these things! So my goals have been learning how to harvest, and do a little cooking, and at least this year, what I can freeze for later. So far, I’ve learned how to grow peas, potatoes, beans, carrots and tomatoes, I’ve learned how to make tomato sauce and sourdough bread.
We fear the squash, and approach it carefully.
Next year, we are also labeling all the herbs, durnit.

Ugg. Those stink bugs drive me crazy. I get them in the spring instead of the fall here in the PNW. Love your writing desk space.
Tammy says
Congratulations on hitting 5000 sales on Etsy!!!

I would love to know how they made those mustard pickles. Never heard of them. Do you have the recipe?
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll ask for it. 🙂
