Mavis’ Favorite Things Giveaway – Day 4

As a way of giving back and thanking you for showing up here on this crazy little blog of mine, whether it’s everyday or every week or just when you need to pop by for a recipe, I thought it would be fun to give away 6 unique gifts this holiday season that have brought us a bit of happiness over the past year.

Some of the giveaways will be locally made products we’ve discovered since moving to New England, some will be handmade, and few will be something I discovered long ago but still find myself using year after year. These 6 giveaways are my way of saying thank you. I love getting up everyday to write this blog! So thank you for being a part of this blog, and for being here to keep the conversation going.

Mavis’ Favorite Things Giveaway – Day 4 – Knit Yourself {or someone you love} a Pair of Mittens

About a year and a half ago the HH and I took a trip to Harrisville, New Hampshire and while we were there, stumbled upon Harrisville Designs {they’ve been spinning 100% Virgin Wool Yarn in the town for over 40 years now} and well, one thing led to another and even though I don’t knit, I was mesmerized by all the colors and textures of the skeins.

And since one of my goals for this giveaway series was to feature local makers, and because I know there are so many of you who love to knit… I figured, hey, I should give away some yarn. But giving away just yarn seemed a little weird to me so I decided to give away yarn + a pattern for mittens. 

I get to support a small business, you get to keep your hands busy, it seemed like a win-win to me. 🙂

All you have to do to enter this giveaway is leave a comment below and let me know if you won, which set of mittens would you like to knit, the russet colored ones, or the ebony and azure mittens? Two winners will be selected {1 for the russet set, and 1 for the ebony and azure set}.

Life. It can be pretty complicated sometimes. But I like to keep things simple. 🙂

Comment must be left on the blog to count as an entry. 1 entry per person/ip address. If you cheat, you will totally be disqualified. This giveaway is open to anyone on the planet earth.

This giveaway ends Monday, December 14th, 2020 @8 pm EST and all the winners of the Mavis’s Favorite Things Giveaway Series will be announced on December 15th, 2020. Winners will be notified via email and have 24 hours to claim their prize. If the prize is not claimed within 24 hours, the prize will be forfeited.

    Both are beautiful! I think I would choose the ebony and azure and if I won, I would give the set to my daughter who loves to knit! She knits all the time to keep her hands from ever being idle.

    My daughter is a knitter and has been to the mills in Harrisville – she LOVES the yarn from there. She would be thrilled with either colorway.

    Oh, I have been eyeing Harrisville’s website for a while now! It would be so fun to visit there. I’d definitely choose the ebony and azure yarn!

      I agree with the comments that both are beautiful, and the azure & ebony are lucius, I’d have to choose the Russet since I’m a knitting novice.

    Ebony and azure. I would have my son knit them. His 5th grade class is learning knitting and knits every Friday. His school thought it would be something fun the elementary kids could learn this year that they wouldn’t need to share supplies for. He has already made a few scarves and is working on some secret Christmas presents.

    Ebony and azure and it would be a great motivation to get back to knitting, this hobby has fallen away after my son was born at two pounds almost four years ago. He has multiple medical and developmental issues and his therapy and doctors are all consuming. Pre Covid it was 47 hours a week and 13 specialists. It is a little less now and shifted some to telehealth to keep him safe but it is very much about getting him doing all the things we take for granted. (Eating, breathing, sitting, walking, talking, etc).

    They are both so beautiful that I hate to choose a favorite. I think the ebony & azure would be my choice because I’ve never braved a pattern with fair isle designs before. It would be fun to try with those beautiful colors.

    I would love to knit the Russet mittens – I love cable designs! As much as I like the colors of the blue and black mittens, my color work leaves much to be desired and always has wonky too-tight areas. Russet for the win!

    My teenage daughter has been teaching herself to knit since COVID. She is working on her first blanket now. I would pick the azure and ebony mittens. Blue is her favorite color.

    Both are gorgeous but I would choose the russet because if I won I would be giving the kit to my teen daughter. She is a big fan of autumn and its colors. But the main reason I would love this kit is because she suffers from physical and mental health issues and although she is coping pretty well during these difficult times, knitting has been a good way to occupy the mind. Plus as much as she would love these colors, she might want to gift them to someone when finished and giving to others is an even better coping mechanism. Thank you too for giving to others Mavis!

    ebony and azure mittens are sooo pretty. I am a newly retired special ed teacher with chickens who kayaks and knits for relaxation. Those yarn colors – the ebony and azure ones – are my favorite colors. It would be wonderful to knit them and then super cool to wear them. I love the texture of the yarn – the yarn looks super yummy. Like you can’t stop yourself from touching it! Thanks for all you do Mavis!

Maine is one of the states I’d love to live in, but I’m afraid I’m stuck in Oregon for the rest of my life. For compensation, it’s only 45 minutes down to the beach.

    I knit, but I’m pretty novice at it and don’t know how to do cables OR colorwork, so either way I would be learning something new!

    That said, if I had to choose I think I would choose the ebony and azure.

    I love Harrisville Designs! One of my favorite things to do when I was young and now with my kids is to make things with their potholder looms. They even have wonderful patterns that resemble quilts which I love. As far as the wool and mittens go, I would choose the russet. I have a vest that color and it might inspire me to make a pair for my mom who looks beautiful in that color. Thank you for another wonderful giveaway!

My hands freeze while I’m outside at the park playing with my dog everyday with the old fingered gloves I have. I would love the russet yarn. And I have a pattern already that I have in mind to make.     Ebony and Azure is amazing. I drove through Maine in summer 2018 and they were closed for summer vacation. I hope to get out there again, once Covid is a thing of the past. I am about 12 miles from the US border, and probably will not be able to cross the border until summer 2021.

I always wanted a pair of mittens with a design on them like the popular girls had. Of course theirs were store bought not handmade. I always got teased about my homemade mittens and sweaters.     I choose Russet. The ebony and azure yarns are beautiful though. I have been crocheting baby blankets to donate to a local program. I can finish one fairly quickly because I can crochet faster, but it would be nice to knit some mittens and then I would have to purchase more yarn to make a scarf :o)

My biggest problem is I like the pattern for the ebony and azure best, and but think the russet would make that pattern great if I added some ebony..     Russet color is very pretty. I would knit them and gift them to the nursing home for one of the CNA ladies that are heroes in this crazy time with the pandemic. Some work double shifts to make sure the residents are taken care of because they are short handed. Even though times are tough it’s nice to see the goodness that can come from such a mess 🙂

    I love, love, love blues so Ebony and Azure for sure. I have a friend who spins yarn from her sheeps’ wool. I would ask her to help me figure out how the heck to knit mittens. My HUSBAND also knits. When he was in college the girls on the ski team taught him how to knit– they were stuck on team vans for so many hours and he was so bored he finally asked them how and they taught him. I knew him for years before I knew he could knit. He hasn’t actively knit anything in a few decades but he still knows how. I think that is so cool.

    Given that the last time I knitted anything (curiously, also mittens) was when I was 8 I should probably go for the plain russet pattern, but the azure and ebony go with my hillwalking jacket so that would be my preference. It’s just like riding a bike, right…?
