As I was thumbing through the latest issue of Maine Magazine, there was a section on Maine’s favorite lobster shacks and one of places featured was McLoons Lobster Shack on Spruce Head Island. And so of course we had to go and check it out.
The drive out to Spruce Head was very scenic {tons of lobster boats, traps stacked high and exactly what you’d expect to see along the coast of Maine}. We even passed by the Gnomes for sale sign we found last summer {we didn’t make the detour though because the HH was on a mission for lobster rolls… not gnomes. 😉
When we arrived we found oodles of seating {picnic tables, Adirondack chairs} fantastic scenery and a very laid back atmosphere.
The seating is spread out between where you order your meal all the way to the lobster dock. So clearly, McLoons is a popular place for people to gather during the summer months. Plus the place can hold a fair amount of people as well.
And the prices were very reasonable too.
A lobster roll, a bag of chips, coleslaw and a dill pickle spear for $21.95. Now that’s a deal!
I had the crab cakes and they were spot on.
The view of the working dock across from the picnic tables. Not too shabby if you ask me.
McLoons Lobster Shack… it’s just another reason to come to Maine. 🙂
Have a great day everyone,

That looks delicious. Stupid question but do lobster rolls come pre seasoned or do you put condiments on it or are they perfect as is?

Every place is different. McLoons only adds a wee bit of mayo to their lobster meat before placing it in the bun {lobster rolls almost always come with a side of melted butter}. Another place my husband likes is Red’s in Wiscasset. They simply load up a toasted roll with fresh lobster. https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/reds-eats-in-wiscasset-maine/

Red’s is the most amazing lobster roll I’ve ever had. We waited about 45 minutes in line for ours and it was completely worth it. You had a choice of melted butter or mayo and we went with the butter. Drooling just thinking about it!

Do you get a car with the Lobster Rolls Royce? 🙂

I love the wooden silverware instead of plastic!

That sounds crazy expensive to me!

Me too! But I have never been anywhere near a lobster roll to know if it’s a bargain or not.

The prices are reasonable and everything looked yummy! Fresh lobster, melted butter, toasted roll=heaven on earth! We visited Rockport, Mass for our anniversary in 2019 and the prices were about the same.
Mavis, have you ever seen the show Maine Cabin Masters? I think of you every time I watch it. It’s a group of friends and family, 5 or 6 people, (I’m sure more behind the scenes) and they travel throughout Maine and restore old cabins for the owners. The crew does a wonderful job at a very reasonable cost. It’s kinda neat to see old fishing cabins, many “bathroomless”, uninsulated, full of critters, etc. brought up to date while keeping the original charm.
