Yesterday, for date day, the HH and I checked out the Barn Door Baking Company and Cafe in the town of Damariscotta, Maine. Someone left a comment on the blog a while back about the place and I’m so glad we stopped by because their breakfast biscuits were out of this world delicious!
And the prices were reasonable too.
Real rye bread! The next time we go back we’ll have to get a loaf of their rye bread and then head over to Morse’s Sauerkraut for some pastrami {and sauerkraut} for a special treat.
I had the egg and cheese biscuit and the HH had the sausage, egg and cheese biscuit and they were both fantastic.
The cool part about the Barn Door Bakery though, is that it’s connected to Sherman’s Bookstore which is filled with not only books, but stationary and a few children’s toys as well.
A mint chocolate brownie… I couldn’t resist.
And a slice of the Barn Door Baking Company’s rise and shine bread for the walk back to the car. A sweet bread filled with nuts, currants and all sorts of goodness. It was gone before we even left town. 😉
Aren’t these little baby lobster shoes the cutest thing ever?
If you’re thinking about making a trip to Maine this summer, definitely put the town of Damariscotta on your list. The town is loaded with eateries {so far we’ve been to The Shuck Station, King Eider’s Pub, Que Rico and now the Barn Door Baking Company, and there are oodles of small shops as well.
Maine, it’s the way life should be…. even in the depths of winter when everything is iced over. 😉
Here’s to a wonderful weekend,
~Mavis

Ahh those baby booties bring back memories. My daughter had pink robeez ones with a snowman on them. She wore them when she was sitting up and was always reaching toward and grabbing the snowman and putting it in her mouth. She is 10 now and her feet are bigger than mine.

I LOVE Damarascotta! Especially when they have the pumpkin festival at the end of October. So fun and people are so creative!

Aww, I love those baby shoes! My daughter had SO many pairs of them and they were all adorable on her. I wish they made those for adults (I’d wear the heck out of a pair of lobster Robeez!). What an absolutely charming store, both the bakery and the bookstore! That breakfast sandwich looks incredible, and now I know what I’ll be making for dinner tomorrow- although they likely won’t be *quite* as good! 🙂
Thanks for this virtual field trip! I really enjoy getting a peek at the places you find on your adventures. 🙂

That breakfast biscuits looks delicious! And that brownie! Yum! I worked at a bakery where they made the mint brownies and the panda bear brownies with a cream cheese layer and a chocolate glaze on top, very rich and very good with a hot cup of tea!

Hi Mavis! I’m a “Mainer in exile” (currently living in MA due to work) but I was born just down the street from the Damariscotta bakery at Miles Memorial. Quite a few years ago to be sure. I’ve been to Sherman’s. If you’re a book lover it’s a great place to browse. And, not too far away is Reny’s. A “Maine shopping experience” not to be missed. I remember going there with my grandmother and being given a dollar ” to spend on anything you want!”. Locals call Damariscotta “Scotty”. I also spent many childhood hours at my grandmother’s house in New Harbor and spending alot of time at Pemaquid Point and Pemaquid Beach. Those were the days! I’ll be sure to stop at the bakery during my next visit! Thanks for the tour!!!
