Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
I’m currently in love with the Ryttenberg (Clear) Light Fixture by Old Brick Lighting. Simple, a unique classic design and clean lines, what more could I ask for? I love it!
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$12,137.85 of $22,000 earned so far}
The AGA has been ordered {we put 1/2 down when we placed the order} and it should be here later this summer. So far I have about 55% of the stove paid for and at this rate if I continue to hook like a mad woman, I should have the AGA paid for by the time it gets here. 🙂
Fill the Canning Cupboard
The canning cupboard is sitting in the family room right now {because the dining room floors are still curing, but so far this year I have canned:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
With the house a total mess, I think I’ll just have to wait until things calm down again because I don’t even know where my boxes of driftwood is now.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
Because we’ve been using the Crock Pot a lot lately, potatoes and carrots seem to be all we’re eating. I can’t wait to get the stove back in the kitchen!
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
All crafting {other than doing a little hooking in the evenings} has been put on hold as the HH has been working on refinishing our floors.
The craft room, which is normally stuffed to the gills with wool, is also currently storing 2 arm chairs, 4 dining chairs, a bench, a sideboard, a console, 2 giant rugs and all sorts of odds and ends so I can barely move around it. Getting anything done in there, much less any other part of the house is pretty much impossible right now.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup
The well has run dry. 🙁 Now we just have to wait for The Girl to come for a visit so we can boil down the sap.
Make a Quilt Top
I made zero progress on my quilt top this past week. Shocking, I know.
Be More Intentional With My Time
Ha Ha Ha. I wasted so much time on the internet this past week, it’s not even funny. But I did find these adorable hand carved acorn wall hangers.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day So far I’m 10 for 15 this year.
Having a major project to work on helps.
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH is finally done sanding and sealing the floors on the kitchen side of the house and so now we’re just waiting for the floors to cure before we can move everything back over to that side.
After we do that, we’ll start the process all over again {moving bedroom and family room furniture over into the craft room and dining room} and then the HH will start sanding the floors on the other side.
I figure by the end of April, the floors will be totally done and then it will just be a waiting game for appliances, cabinets and some electrical work in the kitchen.
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
- Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyard

My House Projects For This Year {so far}

- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here HA HA HA
- New window treatment for the kitchen window

My List of Garden Projects For This Year I want to Accomplish
The asparagus, rhubarb and raspberry canes I ordered over the winter have finally arrived {although 1/2 of the rhubarb plants were ridiculously small} so I’ll work on getting those in the ground asap.
Now all that’s left to procure is a few blueberry bushes, a couple of pear trees and little garden soil to help fill in the area where I plan to plant the raspberry canes, blueberry bushes and pear trees.
Also, once I can use the kitchen again {in a few days} I’ll be starting my tomato seeds under the grow lights.
- Map out this year’s garden by April 1st – done
- Plant apple or pear trees
- Plant raspberry and blueberry bushes – raspberry canes arrived
- Plant asparagus and rhubarb – arrived
- Grow 500 pounds of food
- Expand the lasagna garden
- Finish clearing the front of the property
- Get some garden pots for the front an back patio/porches

We took Lucy on an adventure walk {the beach, her favorite} and while we didn’t find any bottles of Fireball there {thank goodness} Mrs. HB found some. 🙂 HA HA HA.
Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we have visited the town of Hope, Maine and checked out the General Store there.
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

Oh my word, those floors are gorgeous! I’m so excited for you.
I finally found a handyman who has the time to help me out with a few of my goals, so they’re already in process! YAY! Didn’t think I’d get anything done this year. He has a medical condition that doesn’t allow him to work very much (he told me that when he was diagnosed he didn’t think he’d ever work again), but he lives across the street from me and I told him to take his time and do what he can, when he can. It’s a win/win from my viewpoint. He has a spring in his step that wasn’t there before and I think I’m actually going to get a few things done this year.
Happy Easter, Mavis!

I’m not sure how long the floors take to cure or what veggies you have on hand, but this crockpot lo-mein might be an option if you want something with different veggies that can still be made in the crockpot (maybe skip the pasta and do rice on the side if you only have the rice cooker right now). https://damndelicious.net/2016/05/13/slow-cooker-lo-mein/
I finished a baby quilt and matching baby booties this week (not really nursery-related, but in the same general category). My end tables arrived (to replace the defective one I bought before), so I tossed them in the nursery. I also installed a longer doorstop, so now the shelves I originally bought will fit. Other than maybe making a throw pillow cover, there’s not much more I can do until the supply chain unkinks itself. The dresser I was trying to buy still has not come back in stock, and an order from a different place is apparently lost.

Good golly, those floors! Impressed that you two took that on. Wow what a job.

Mavis and HH,
Simply amazing progress and results on your beautiful floors! You have such can do spirit and knowledge on how to get things done! Way to go! I enjoy your blog so much! Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing such wonderful adventures with us. Please let us know what varieties of raspberry and blueberries you select! Thank you!
Mel,
So sweet you are able to sew such wonderful things for your baby… mobile, blanket, and booties! Glad you were able to find a longer door stop! Hope the furniture comes in stock soon! The crockpot recipe sounds good especially with the veggies. I always like reading your comments.
Mrs. H.B.,
That is hilarious that you found someone ahead of you in the grocery buying fireball and they also gave advice on how to use it! I laughed out loud at the photo- party bucket! So funny!
Mel says
Aww thanks. I didn’t actually sew the mobile because I didn’t want to have to take it apart to wash or clean it, so I just painted that, but I sewed the rest. I did hit a snag with the pillow cover yesterday, so I had to start over and order new fabric. Never a dull moment!
Diane says
Happy Easter, Passover, Ramadan or Spring!
Whichever you celebrate, I wish you and yours peace, health and happiness.
Cynthia says
Mrs. HB, I love Fireball and I’m local to you! Yes please!
Tracy says
Oh, that light fixture is beautiful. The only value I can add is to beware hanging any clear glass light fixture that has horizontal angles to the glass. Every single time you turn it on, all you’ll see is the dust that has settled on it. Even one day after you’ve cleaned it. Ask me how I know…..sigh
Mrs Hillbilly says
Ms. Mavis also mentioned they may use them in an Easter egg hunt . Interesting . I have never tried fireball, that I can remember but did like the Heritage brown sugar bourbon, when I had a little . Don’t know if they would taste the same? It was spicy to me .
Katie says
The floors are gorgeous! Funny, we have season tickets for a local college football team. It’s a scene, and the guy who has the seats in front of us always manages to pull a few of those little fireball bottles out during the game. He’s a nice guy, and entertaining, but before we got to knew him, I just referred to him as “Fireball Freddy”. He also brought a different date to each game, I guess not all the gals were impressed with his Fireball stash.
Mavis Butterfield says
Hilarious.
