Yesterday we visited the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine. The gardens have been on my list of “places to visit” since moving to Maine a few years ago. And while there wasn’t a tremendous amount of flowers in bloom yet, there was still plenty to see.
My favorites being the children’s garden and the giant trolls or rather the Guardians of the Seeds by artist Thomas Dambo.
I LOVED the whimisical fence of kittens. And the spacing of the boards!
What a perfect spot for story time, don’t you think?
And then there was the Peter Rabbit themed garden.
Complete with giant cabbages, carrots and his little blue coat hanging in Mr. McGregor’s garden.
After we checked out the children’s garden we wandered down the trails in search of the 5 giant wooden troll sculptures.
I found these sort of creepy and cool at the same time. Artistic yes, would I want them looming in my woods? No. 😉
The work that went into these was amazing.
The artist, Thomas Dambo, lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark and started making trolls in 2014. Since then he has created dozens of trolls that are now featured in parks around the world. {You can see where his trolls are currently living by clicking on this map}.
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine. Pack a lunch {and some bug spray!} it’s a great place to spend the morning {or afternoon} exploring yet another part of the great state of Maine.
Have a wonderful day,

Very cool. Thanks for sharing Mavis. If I ever travel near any of these trolls, they will definitely be on my bucket list. You’re lucky to have 5 near you.

Thank you for sharing this! I have been wanting to go, but it is a long ride from northern Vermont and I saw on their website you have to book a day and time in advance.

I went back in 2017 when we stayed in Boothbay. It was summertime and everything was in bloom and it was amazing. I got some of my best photos from vacation there. Glad you got to visit!

We have trolls in Kentucky – Bernheim Forest outside of Louisville. They are wonderful – so huge and so much personality!
