Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
All kitchen projects are on hold until the dishwasher, and oven are delivered. Which is a good thing… because I’m having too much fun playing in my new religious family sized garden plot to care about anything kitchen related. 🙂
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$15,322.45 of $22,000 earned so far}
I sold a few more of my new hooked rugs last week and now I am right around the 70% mark of funds for my new AGA stove. HOW COOL IS THAT!? Only $6,677.55 to go until I’ve earned enough with my hooked rugs to get the stove I’ve wanted for the last 20 years. 🙂
Fill the Canning Cupboard
I’m working on it! I have 2 new recipes I want to try this week, and the fun part is I already have all the ingredients I need.
So far this year I have canned:
Not canned but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I think I’ll just have to wait until things calm down before I list my beach finds.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
The fruit and veggie fairy made a visit last week and so we’ve been eating our way through an assortment of goodness. {I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow}.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
I made it through a 4th week with no crafts in the dining room. I think that might be a record.
The lilacs are in bloom all over town. They’re so pretty I had to stop at a roadside stand and get a bundle for the table. I told the HH he needed to add lilac bushes to our 2023 garden as they are so fragrant.
Plus, we could make a batch of Susan’s Lilac Blossom Jelly if we had some growing in our own yard.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
I made zero progress on my quilt top this past week. But I have until the end of the year to complete this goal so I’m not too worried about it.
Be More Intentional With My Time
Rain barrels. If I’m going to have a greenhouse someday, I should probably start researching them.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 18 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Keep My Husband Busy
As soon as the HH fixed the wheelbarrow, his tractor displayed an error code and so the tractor people had to come pick it up and bring it back to the shop to fix the issue.
So basically he’s been without it for about 5 days now and his work in the religious family vegetable garden has been put on hold until the shop brings it back in a few days.
Last week he kept busy installing by a new tv at the neighbors place, ordered firewood, {there is a month wait!!} mowed the back 40, stopped by the recycling center, chauffeured The Girl and I around and ran a bunch of errands {that I didn’t want to do} so there wasn’t much down time for him.
I think this week I’m going to try and see if he will build me some window boxes for the front of the house. 🙂
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022

My House Projects For This Year {so far}
All I care about is gardening right now. Once the rest of my seeds are planted {June 1st for corn, squash and melons} then I’ll start working on my list. Finishing up where I left off last summer painting the outside of the house will probably be first.
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house {working on it}
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here HA HA HA

How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

The above photo of your dining room actually calms me. Lovely, probably even when the table is covered!
Ramona says
Curious about the photo of chairs and other things in a heap. Maybe that is a tale for another day.
tia in boise says
Yes! I, too, was hoping for some information on those chairs…
Diana says
Rainbarrels.
For the last 7-10 years I’ve used 17 Rubbermaid garbage cans (cheap, cheap!) and have watered my veg/flower garden by hand. None have failed. I live in an historic community where the houses didn’t have gutters, (and we aren’t allowed them now), so no easy way to fill them. I’ve placed them where the roof lines converge and there is more of a flow of water. It would be very easy to daisy chain them using 2 connections between the cans to allow for overflow from one can to go to another. I’m using old screens to cover them while filling (avoiding trash and mosquitos) and then keep the lids on to prevent evaporation.
Life changes. I am now going to use a 275 gal IBC tote for my main storage tank and have set it up to hook a hose to it. The garbage cans will be my collection spots and I’m using a transfer pump to move the water to the IBC tote. (The IBC tote is stored at the back of the house, where the HC can’t dictate and I have been able to put up a gutter on the back roof, helping to fill the tank.) There should be enough head pressure (from # of gallons and height the tank is off the ground) to be able to use a spray hose where needed and to hook up a drip system.
Check out the YT channel The Millennial Gardener to see how he set his system up. Rather cool!
And don’t get suckered into the expensive rain barrels. IBC totes and rubberized type garbage cans work fine. Attaching a spigot to the bottom of those is easy peasy and if you daisy chain them together, you only need one spigot. The hard plastic type garbage cans all failed within the first year. Don’t get those.
LindaT says
I too have been thinking that rain barrels would be a good way to go. Thanks so much for being so informative.
Mavis Butterfield says
Great info, thanks Diana! 🙂
Annette says
IBC tote?
Tracey says
How about a lobster hooking pattern or pieces?

What is the secret of getting seeds to come up. Mine don’t do well. Also, the stupid cats in neighborhood are using a garden boxes are litter boxes – we have tried all kind of things to get them to stop- they won’t. Is it safe if we dig the poop out- it won’t contaminate my plants will it? There are at least 5 cats that run neighborhood, there is city law against it but owners don’t seem to care.
2) good containers for seeds are plastic boxes with individual small boxes- photo boxes – craft shops carry them.
Gigi says
Check with the state, county or village for rain barrels. Near me, they have lots of free or reduced barrels with connections. If you do DIY, make sure the barrel is food grade. You don’t want plastics leaching when exposed to UV.
Jacki Sanders says
My sister said there are rain barrels at Sam’s for around $150 or less. Can’t remember what she said the price was. I wanting one now. 🙂
Melissa says
I saw your True Gold corn seeds. We Just harvested 3 ears for dinner this weekend. So good. I’ve spent years looking for the right corn seeds to make my Texas farm boy happy. True Gold is a winner.
Mavis Butterfield says
They seemed to have the best reviews and so that’s why I went with them. Glad to hear you like the corn. I’m excited to try it this year.
