Yesterday the HH and I took the day off from gardening chores and headed to Boothbay Harbor for this week’s “date day” adventure.
The Girl and I visited the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay a few weeks ago, but this was my {and the HH’s} first trip down to the waterfront area with its many shops and eateries.
And what a LOVELY and picturesque town it is!
Museums in the Streets. Have you seen these signs before? Are they something that’s everywhere or just in the state of Maine? I love these signs and the stories they tell about the structures or points of particular interest around the tiny towns we’ve visited over the past few years here in Maine.
I could totally live in a place like this {well, minus the tourists passing by all day}.
The downtown waterfront area was filled with all sorts of shops and eateries. Everything from takeaway meals to nice sitdown restaurants.
And there were tons of art galleries too.
This nautical lamp made from an old wooden float {or one that was made to look old?} was one of my favorite things I spied yesterday. I wonder if I could make one.
If I was planning a vacation to Maine, Boothbay Harbor would definitely be on my list. And if I were coming here to stay for a few days I’d probably want to stay in one of the many gorgeous Bed and Breakfasts that line the downtown harbor area.
That way I could walk around town each morning with my cup of tea and walk along the pier and check out all the cool sculptures.
And then at some point I’d want to wander over to the public library {and the friends of the libary used book store that is next door} and read all the magazines I no longer subscribe to.
Boothbay Harbor. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s the kind of place that would be perfect to spend an afternoon or a week. There’s so much to do!
Maine. The way life should be.
It’s pretty awesome here. You should come for a visit. 🙂
Have a great day everyone, I’m off to water the tomatoes.

You came to my town, and you’re right, it’s adorable here. High tourists in the summer and cozy in the winter. If you pass back this way, grab a sandwich from the East Boothbay general store, they are fantastic. From there, take your lunch down to Ocean Point to walk the point with great ocean and lighthouse views, as well as some great gardens.

Yes, the prettiest walk in Maine–Ocean Point. And yes, stop by the East Boothbay General Store on the way down–good pizza by the slice and great sandwiches. I believe they have grab and go also.

As I was scrolling down this post looking at the photo’s and reading under them when I got to the lamp before I read about it my thought was. I bet Mavis is going to want to make one of these. I think you have been collecting some old floats.

OMG thank you. I have been waiting for you to go to Boothbay Harbor to get “fresh” picture of one of my fav places on earth. I went there as a kid for 2 wks in August til I was like 10 – I took my husband and dog 13 years ago and then took them and my daughter last summer. It is a magical place – we stay on West Harbor Pond and I am dying to go back. I actually just subscribed to their weekly newspaper when I learned the hotel on West Harbor Pond burned down last month – hope they rebuild! Love love love it there! Robinson’s Wharf for lobster dinner. the brewery on the the Footbridge! the icescream shops and friendly shopkeepers! and that botanical garden is amazing and then the huge wooden trolls make it even more so.

One of my favorite place!!

I moved to Boothbay Harbor, Maine five years ago and love the people, weather, ocean and the whole atmosphere. Atmosphere changes in the summer months, yet that is yearly tolerated . You should see the Botanical Gardens any time of year, especially mid-summer and near the Christmas Holidays. Exquisite!

We were just in Acadia and Bar Harbor and saw the Museum in the Streets there. And we went into the library there which was beautiful!! I actually bought a Steinbeck book there from the used book sales shelf and have a wonderful souvenir of that memory to add to my library.
