Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
The electrician finished up his work in the kitchen and so the HH was busy this past week patching all the holes {all 8 of them!}. What a chore. The areas still need a coat or two of mud and then after the final sanding, the walls will be ready for me to paint.
I’m hoping to have the kitchen area painted by next weekend.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
Well I did it!!! I finally hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker. We’re just waiting for the call from the appliance guy to let us know when it’s in.
I’ve now shifted to saving my rug hooking funds for a “research trip” to England to find the perfect scone {so I can duplicate it in my new oven}.
Fill the Canning Cupboard
The canning cupboard is filling up!
This past week I canned more Costco like salsa and also a batch of tomato bruchetta {I’ll post the recipe soon}.
We have plenty of canned tomatoes and tomato sauce to get us through the winter, so I think I’ll keep focusing on salsa and maybe also work on a few sauce recipes.
So far this year I have canned:
- Costco Like Salsa
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
- Zucchini Relish
- Heirloom Tomato Salsa
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ve decided to wait until fall to list my beach finds. I know this is cutting my selling season a bit short, but with so many other things going on right now, I just don’t have the time to add another thing to my to-do list.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
Salsa totally counts, right? 🙂
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
This past week was not a good one for keeping the crafts out of the craft room. There are stacks of wool EVERYWHERE. 🙂
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
No progress. But the good news is I still have 4 1/4 months to get this goal checked off my list.
Be More Intentional With My Time
The Duck Lady and I went to a yard sale bright and early yesterday and although we didn’t find much, I always think it’s interesting to see what other people are getting rid of… and the value they put on certain items.
Like $12 for an old glass {naked} Mrs. Butterworth syrup bottle with a plastic cap.
But only $0.50 for Maid of Honor vintage pie tins {that are selling for $25 each on Etsy}. 😉 You just never know what you’re going to find… and I love that about yard sales.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 31 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Keep My Husband Busy
It was a good week for the HH. A few small projects, driving Miss Daisy {me} around, and two trips to the recycle center. Maybe next week I can get him to help me paint. We’ll see. 😉
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyardDONE- Build a new set of stairs down to the water.
Fill the field {with soil}- Remodel 1 bathroom
Replace fireplace tile- Build window boxes for the front of the house
Build an arbor for the wisteria{We decided to move the wisteria to another location instead}Order 4 cords of firewood by the end of May and stack themDONESand the floors in the entire houseDONE- Install new garage door openers {new addition}
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
Project #1 is keeping my whole house blinders on just a little while longer and not stressing about the fact that my house is {and has been since the start of the year} one giant remodeling mess.
I know the fun won’t really start though until the HH pulls out the sink and we’re washing dishes in the bathroom while we wait for the cabinet guys/countertops/plumbers to their bit, but still… It’s the anticipation of it all that I’m trying not to think about.
I know it will all come together in the end. And that’s what I have to focus on.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here {working on it!}
- New window treatment for the kitchen window {ordered!}

If the HH was in charge of catching our dinner… we’d starve. I might have to take a pole out and give it a whirl.

How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

That canning cupboard is filling up FAST! (Major envy down here in Louisiana ) I hope you have shelving in the basement for more garden goodness!
Pam F. says
Don’t feel bad about the quilt. I started a feathered star quilt about 25 years ago and well, life interruptus but did finish it over last winter and spring. Everything else you’ve got going is looking great.
Never heard of Maid of Honor pie tins. Now I have!
Luisa says
In the late 60s my father (an uneducated war refugee and immigrant) bought me that exact dictionary. I was probably 7 years old and it was the largest book I had ever seen. There was no money to spare for books, but it was so important to him that I learn the language and have an education. He figured a dictionary was the best place to start. He passed away 2 years ago, and this dictionary is still front and center in my living room.

I made your salsa recipe yesterday and my son tried it today and commented that it tasted just like that salsa I used to get at Costco. He said it was delicious. I am growing tomatoes but not enough to can so I bought a bushel from the farmers market for $14. So far I made 11 pints of salsa 7 quarts of diced tomatoes and I have another canner full of diced tomatoes to go and currently I’m working on pizza sauce with the remainder. I’m already sick of dealing with tomatoes and I’ve only been doing it for two days. Lol
Mavis Butterfield says
$14 is a deal!!! Have fun canning. 🙂
GrannyB says
$14 is a steal. I would buy those tomatoes also. That’s a LOT of tomatoes and absolutely no labor involved in the growing of them.
Mavis as for the lasagna garden, you didn’t replace it, HH squared it up, you made it a melon patch, and also added the religious family sized garden. Girl you have more garden and gardening energy than you realize!! Keep up the great work!! Winter is going to be delicious. Yum!
Terena says
What a lovely story, and a wonderful memory to have of your late father. Thank you for sharing.

My parents used to have that exact dictionary, what a steal indeed!

As a guy who reads your blog, is HH stand for Hotty Husband or Handsome Husband? Just curious?
Cindy Brick says
Mavis, don’t put this on your site — it’s bound to be gone by then.
BUT —
approx. 14 oz diced tomatoes from Italy — 16 for $5.25!!!
They had 14 available on Amazon Warehouse — but I just bought five. I know you have a ton of tomatoes right now, though… so maybe this is something to mention in tomorrow’s post. Who knows.

I just checked, 15 min. later — sorry, Mavis. They’re gone!
Wrote you within five minutes of when I ordered some…sorry.
Cindy
Cindy Brick says
nope, they’re back…but only 7 left.
You might check — and get lucky. (Yes, this is nutty — writing you like this. But I know you like a good bargain.)

I’m sure you know that “bruschetta” is the word for toasted bread, or grilled bread w oil and garlic,
Shari Harniss says
I totally love your new turkey rug! It makes me feel good to look at it. Very homey!
Have you thought of doing an instructional video of your hooking? I know there are many of us interested in this craft, but are unsure of where to start. It would be a blessing!
Thank you for the information, levity and happiness that you share!
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Shari. There are tons of rug hooking videos onlilne if you want to give it a try. 🙂
