Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
By far the biggest project I wanted to complete this year was to remodel the kitchen. And well, we made it 95% of the way there. New floors, new cabinets, new countertops, new appliances, and a new pantry.
We’re both happy with the way things turned out, and are looking forward to getting our new AGA stove and checking this goal off our list for good, sometime in mid 2023.
What was once a crowded, dark and claustrophobic kitchen with a weird layout, has been replaced with a light, airy and calm one.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
I hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker sometime around July, and was pretty pumped about that. But when the stove arrived it was damaged.
And now we have to wait until the end of May 2023 for the new one to arrive.
Fill the Canning Cupboard DONE
This goal was pretty straightforward; Fill the cupboard I bought specifically to fill with home canned goodness.
Mission accomplished. 😉
So far this year I have canned:
- Apple Pie Filling
- Canned Carrots
- Green Tomato Piccalilli
- Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce
- Costco Like Salsa
- Basil and Garlic Tomato Sauce
- Tomato Ketchup
- Tomato Bruchetta
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
- Zucchini Relish
- Heirloom Tomato Salsa
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ve decided to move this goal to 2023.
I just didn’t have enough time to devote to this goal this year. I had planned on selling my driftwood, rocks and other seaside finds online this year, but just ran out of time. Next year though…
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables. DONE
I think we did a pretty good job this year of eating our weight in fruits and vegetables. There’s always room for improvement of course, but for the most part, I think we did great.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
The old dining room.
The new dining room.
While every week wasn’t a winner when it came to keeping the crafts out of the dining room, for the most part, I’d say I did a pretty good job of keeping our home clutter free {at least when construction wasn’t going on}.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and since we still haven plenty of maple syrup left for last year’s harvest, we’ve decided to not tap our trees this winter… and I think the HH is pretty happy about that!
Tapping your own trees, it’s a lot of work! Even when you only have 2 trees to tap.

Make a Quilt Top
I had big plans of making a quilt for my bed this year but the reality of it is… I dislike sewing immensely and didn’t carve out the time that I should have to get the quilt done in time.
It’s probably a goal I should have never set for myself in the first place, but hey, lucky for me, my friend Zoë loves to quilt and she has all the proper tools/machines and is currently working on piecing it together for me.
Moral of the story…. Do what you LOVE. And pay others to do what you don’t.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day a Week {I had 52 craft/blog free days this year so far.} DONE
I think I did a pretty good job of unplugging in 2022, but I think my husband would like to see me unplug even more in 2023. Finding that work/life balance… It can be sort of tricky. Especially when you work from home.
Be More Intentional With My Time DONE
Nailed it.
Fact: Life is short. You’re running out of time. Get out there and do the things you want to do while you still can.
Keep My Husband Busy
By far the biggest project my husband tackled in 2022 was sanding the wood floors in our house. It was a horrible dusty mess and the least fun either of us have had in a very long time but he did it and whoa Nellie what a difference it made.
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
He also did a stellar job of doing all the other man things mostly without complaint. Husbands. I’m convinced all they want to do {the good ones anyway} is to make us happy.
I love my husband.
He didn’t take over the cooking , remodel a bathroom or make me window boxes for the front of the house… but there’s always next year. 🙂
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyardDONE- Build a new set of stairs down to the water.
Fill the field {with soil}- Remodel 1 bathroom
Replace fireplace tile- Build window boxes for the front of the house
Order 4 cords of firewood by the end of May and stack themDONESand the floors in the entire houseDONEInstall new garage door openersDONE {new addition}
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
While I did get most of the big projects I wanted to accomplish this year done, I didn’t finish painting the outside of the house, or making something to hang over the console because so many other things popped up. But that’s okay, I still feel like I got a ton of things done.
- Finish painting the outside of the house
Finish painting the inside of the house- Make something to hang above our new console table
Make it look like people actually live hereNew window treatment for the kitchen window

Get a Fishing License and Catch a Fish
Still no fish. Maybe next year? Who knows.
This year was a pretty kooky one for gardening. I started the year with a misshapen lasagna garden out in the field and a small kitchen garden up by the house.
Then my husband bought a tractor.
And now I have a commune sized garden that I can’t even get into one photo because it’s so big. I have no idea what I’ll be growing next year, but you can bet your bacon that it will be a lot of something.
Who knows… I may even have to set up a little farmstand at the end of my driveway to justify the madness.
This year we harvested: 853 pounds and 3 oz of fresh garden goodness.
- Cabbage 36 pounds 9 ounces
- Radishes 3 pounds 14 ounces
- Broccoli 3.5 ounces
- Lettuce 1 pound 4 ounces
- Chives 1 pound 2 ounces
- Tomatoes 453 pounds 12 ounces

Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns and/or Kits Done! {34 out of 12 finished so far}
It was a CRAZY year in the rug hooking department here at Camp Butterfield. On my busiest day I shipped out 43 packages.
I only had 2 goals for my rug hooking this year: Create 12 new rug hooking patterns, and make/sell enough of my finished pieces to pay for an AGA stove.
I blew through both of those goals about halfway through the year and just kept truckin’.
Be careful what you wish for… That’s all I have to say about that. 🙂

52 Walks Done
Still, my favorite place to walk is the Rockland Breakwater. The view is always different.
Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
I actually thought visiting 12 different towns in Maine would be a piece of cake. But it turns out you actually have to make an effort to leave your house if you want to go exploring.
We did discover a few new towns and Boothbay and Bath were both at the top of our lists and places we’ll likely be going back to again and again.
So far we’ve visited:
- Brunswick
- Alna, Maine
- Boothbay Harbor
- Washington General Store
- Hope General Store
- Rockland, Maine
- Bath, Maine
- Skowhegan, Maine
It was a good year.
I feel like we got a lot done, and had a good time along the way… and sometimes, that’s all you need.
Good food, good company and a sense of humor.
Goodbye 2022… Hello 2023. I’m ready for you.
So how did YOU do with YOUR goals this year?
~Mavis

I always admire how well you do on your goals. I didn’t do so good. Maybe my goals are too lofty? Checked some off, and parts of others. I just keep plugging along and don’t worry about it.
Nancy says
Actually had a great year in the goal department. Read 33 books instead of the 24 that was my goal. Tiled our backsplash and hubby tiled a shower seat in our bathroom. Successfully sold our house in NY right before the market plunged, downsized our possessions and updated the vehicle situation. Looking to doing more traveling this coming year but we just had an unexpected road trip due to the Southwest cancellations, traffic was terrible so maybe you are right, home is best!
Connie says
I have enjoyed your blog so much over the years . I began reading when you were on the west coast and cooking like crazy. Then I remember the purge and downsizing.
We are retired and I have downsized like crazy. Still do yearly purge.
Thanks for all your meal ideas. They are helpful.
Have not done my goals but reading and learning / studying new topics will be on it !
Like you, I am content at home.
Have a great 2023!

Talking about my goals depresses me. When you have close family members with serious health problems, things are never in your control.
How do you-or anyone actually-like having your microwave behind closed doors?
Lindsey says
Sometimes things are so bad the only goal one can manage is to stay sane and kind until life gets better. Hell, sometimes just getting out of bed is all you can manage and that is okay, too. I hope things get easier for you in the new year.
Honeybee says
HI Peg, my microwave is in a cupboard similar to Mavis although higher.
It was part of the kitchen remodel plan I came up with and both my spouse and I love it. Because it is behind doors we felt comortable buying the generic (not very fancy) large microwave at Costco. I did take into consideration my height 5’2″ and the placement of the cupboard doors since they need to be open while in use. Be sure and add an outlet to that cupboard.

Honestly I can hardly remember my goals lol. But I did purchase a new car right before interest rates skyrocketed. I put down $9000, already paid off $5000 and am working hard at making extra principal payments. This was a big need and with used cars being so expensive and hard to come by I ended up with new. I had tried to wait out the market for almost 2 years while saving money but we needed another car so I bit the bullet and bought one. I love it.
I’m pretty sure I had cut back on fancy coffee drinks on my list and I failed big time. But I enjoy this small pleasure more than eating out or other vices. So I’ve decided it is worth it.
Also, wanted to lose weight. But in supporting a child with an eating disorder all year the opposite happened. I will gladly gain weight to save my child’s life though so another fail that is worth it.
Eileen says
I actually did ok with my goals. I put on a new roof on my house and reluctantly replaced my old oil tank with a shiny black new one. When the oil guy said”Lady this oil tank is 66 years old and doesn’t t owe you anything” I knew it was time.
Still didn’t replace the kitchen floor but did finally paint my bathroom. Also increased my home sewing business- especially boat repair sewing projects/cushions- and took a sewing class with a master sewer. Didn’t read as much as I would have liked to and will try for more time devoted to that next year. All in all, not bad.

Mavis,
Way to go on your goals! You are an inspiration and I love your blog! It’s the only one I read everyday! Thank you and Happy New Year!
Linda Sand says
You comment about needing to actually leave the house cracked me up. I so relate!
Vy says
YAY YOU!! I appreciate how “can do” you are, it’s inspirational. Your work ethic and follow-through speak to me.
