Last week while The Girl and I were in Vermont, one of the places we stopped in the morning before our classes began at King Arthur was the Gardener’s Supply Company.
I had no idea The Gardener’s Supply Company was an actual store {with 4 locations!}. I always thought they were just a mail order catalog company.
You’ve seen their catalogs, right? They’re filled with everything from garden tools to grow racks to seeds with everything in between.
And well, apparently they also sell giant pots and plants grown in their greenhouses as well. Who knew?
If you live in a place where it’s essentially frozen tundra 6 months out of the year, then you know what a treat it is to walk around a warm and brightly lit greenhouse surrounding yourself in a sea of green during the middle of winter.
Plant therapy. That’s what this place was, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

There were garden gloves and tools galore!
And compost bins too pretty to put kitchen scraps in. 😉
They also had a nice selection of canning supplies.
And something called wool garden pads. Have you heard of these? I had no idea they were a thing. Apparently they’re made with 100% Pure British Sheep Wool from British Farms and made in the UK.
You can learn more about them on the Hortiwool website HERE.
Anyway, it was a good stop. I can only imagine what the place must look like during the late spring and summer months when the greenhouses are full and all their tables are full of plants to sell.
The most interesting thing I saw though, was bulk beach glass for sale. Or rather a sign for beach glass because it was all covered in snow.
But how cool is that? I wonder what people use it for? Have you ever used beach glass in your garden before? Hmmm… Maybe it’s time to fire up the rock tumbler again.
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis

I love greenhouses in winter! My favorite place to go here in Maryland used to be Behnke Nurseries. Sad, sad, sad day when they closed.

We have a local garden center (Esposito’s: espositogardencenter.com ) that I will be going to tomorrow to pick up some veggie plants and seeds. They have a really good selection (although not nearly as much as the one you went to). I am using our greenhouse for my garden this year. Hubby took the roof panels off the greenhouse (way too hot in Florida to grow anything in a greenhouse in the spring/summer). The main reason for this is to keep the animals out – we live in a rural area and the deer will eat everything. We didn’t want to put up a fence (too much work and we are old . . . ha ha ha) so we decided to use what we already had. I cleaned out the garden beds inside and now all I have to do is get it planted. With the roof off, the plants will get watered when it rains (which means I won’t have to water them as much). This is my first time doing it this way so it will be fun to see if it works.

I’ve seen beach glass used for making jewelry. I had a blue pair of earrings for years until recently while playing with my grandchild one came out of my ear in their house and we still have not found it. I suppose I can make the one left into a necklace now.
There are many ideas on internet for beach glass projects.

Beach glass is quite the find. You might think about selling it on Etsy.

Though it’s sunny today, it’s been pretty gray for awhile here in Puyallup. One look at the photos of Gardeners Supply is making me put on my shoes and head to Watson’s Nursery. I love walking around there even if I don’t purchase anything (highly unlikely that would happen!)

I miss Watson’s!

My happy place! Only about 2 miles away!

That sea glass is made from recycled glass and some use it to make fun spots like water beds and other features in the garden.
Can find some on Pinterest.

I have seen greeting cards that used sea glass to make the picture on the front of the card as well as small plaques to hang on the wall. They are quite striking. Lots of ideas for you to add to your etsy shop…

We used to live near a park made on the site of an old glass factory. They had crushed glass mulch in some of the landscaping to look like riverbeds and waterfalls.
