The Best Buoy Yet! — Yesterday Lucy the puggle princess and I set off to investigate a buoy that’s been floating stagnant in front of our place for the past 6 weeks or so.
We had assumed the buoy was attached to a lobster pot and got stuck in some rocks {and that a lobsterman would come by and pick it up}. But he never did. After the storm rolled by on Saturday, the buoy had inched over closer to the island and well, I decided it was time to find out once and for all what was holding it in place.
Lucy LOVES being out on the water! Have I told you that before? And she especially loves going to rides in the kayak.
Even from the back deck we could tell it was a nice looking buoy.
Don’t you just love the coloring?
Well to our surprise, the buoy rope wasn’t attached to ANYTHING! It was the long rope that was preventing the buoy from moving very far.
I figured that after 6 weeks of sitting in the water… The beautiful buoy fell into the “finders keepers” category. Don’t you agree?
It was a good day out on the water, that’s for sure. And lucky for us, we’ve got a few more days of beautiful sunshine to enjoy before the clouds start rolling in again.
Maine. The way life should be. 🙂
Have a great day everyone, I hope the sun is shining wherever you are.

I am buoy crazy and have found many after living beside the ocean for sixteen years. If they are ugly, I paint them half and half in a color combo that I like and hang them on our fence. It gives a real Maritime feeling to our yard. My day is made when I find a buoy (or a piece of red sea glass).
Lynn from NC Outer Banks says
Oh goodness, red sea glass?? I’ve only found one small piece over 2 decades of looking. Where do you live that finding red is a someone frequent occurrence? I was always on the lookout for blues, which used to be “find-able”. Now it is slim pickings even with the common colors. 🙁

We owned a ten cottage rental place on the Argyle Shore in Prince Edward Island, Canada from 2007 to 2019. I filled up the narrow garden that surrounded our house with the boring whites, greens and brown sea glass. I maybe found ten red pieces over the years there. I also found five antique glass stoppers that were all a light lime green color. Oh, and piles of petrified wood that I painstakingly picked up and took with me to our Stratford home which gets used as landscape material here. Best thirteen summers of my life!
Nora says
Ohh you could make another wreath by using that long rope – very maritime.

Lucy looks so happy on the kayak! Good find on the buoy!
Stephanie in Utah says
The buoy reminds me of candy corn, just needs a stripe of white at the top!
Vy says
I was going to say the same as Stephanie, you’re one stripe away from a Halloween decoration 🙂

We always vacation on St. George Island off the Florida panhandle. One day I spotted one in the water and chased it down the beach until it came a shore. Great findMavis.
I found found beach treasures. So fun.

Not only is it a “finders keepers” you’ve done a good deed by getting it out of the water so no birds/animals get caught up in the loose rope. Those ropes sometimes get caught in boat motor propellers and that is why many are floating loose.
Sue S. says
I agree. One less piece of marine detritus floating haphazardly, waiting for a sea turtle to get caught in it. Yay Mavis!! And a boon to your found treasures sales, even better!!
Susan Webster says
Is it just me or does that Buoy look like a giant piece of Candy Corn!
Holley says
Mavis, do you ever go searching for treasures on the island?

I love Miss Lucy! Her face and lil teefs are so darned cute in her pics! The buoy would have been driving me crazy. glad you got the goods on it and gave it a home!

I have posted items like this on NextDoor app. Believe it or not, a lost dock that I tied to the shore was able to find their owner thanks to a post I put there. I’ll let you figure out how to make sure the right person is making the claim. 😉
If nobody claims it though it would be interesting to train mussels to grow on it and farm some of your own!

Seeing Lucy out on the water enjoying life made me very happy!
