If you are looking for some fresh ideas for Thanksgiving pies to serve at your table this year, well look no further. I have put together a list of my all time favorite festive homemade pies.
I don’t know about you, but I sort of think dessert is the best part of any feast. I’d much rather eat a smaller dinner and load up on pie… Glorious pie!
Here are my top picks:
Pineapple Buttermilk Pie – Okay, this may come as a shock to you, but pumpkin is not my go to favorite when it comes to the Thanksgiving pie department. Nope. It’s this pineapple buttermilk pie that I’ve been making for about 15 years now.
It’s crazy good and just the sort of dessert you’d still have room for after a big meal. Trust me. Make this and all your guests will be asking you for the recipe.
Old Fashioned Coconut Cream Pie – Coming in at my #2 favorite pie of all time is this recipe for old fashioned coconut cream pie from my friend Zoë. This recipe was passed down to her and tastes just like a real pie you’d get at one of those old school diners with a waitress named Flo.
It’s heavy and thick and simply AMAZING. Thin slices on this one! 😉
Sour Cherry Pie – If you can get a hold of a bag of sour cherries, make this pie!!! This one is perfect with a school of vanilla ice cream and it sets up beautifully!
The Best Banoffee Pie – Okay, so not the first thing you think of when it comes to Thanksgiving pies, but holy cats batman, this caramel filled pie hits the spot every time. Plus, it’s fun to be able to serve something people have never tried before too.
Lemon Meringue Pie – Looking for a Lemon Meringue Pie Recipe like the one Grandma used to make? While there are a lot of steps to make a lemon meringue pie, trust me, it’s worth the effort.
Here’s a few more of my favorite Thanksgiving Pies.
- Cranberry Apple Pie
- Apple Crumb Pie
- Chocolate Pretzel Pecan Pie
- Almond Cream Pear Tart {Okay, so not a pie}
So there you have it. My favorite Thanksgiving pies! What pies do YOU like to serve on Thanksgiving? I’d love to know.
Happy baking!

Key lime and apple. Then a few days after I may make a chocolate chess pie. We would rather spread out the baking so we can eat fresh.

Mavis do you have suggestions for Secret Santa gifts. Maybe your favourite canned foods or whatnot.

We have ‘barely sweet apple pie’ (great for breakfast too), pumpkin pie (with cream cheese melted in to the hot pumpkin after baking them), and maple pecan/Oregon hazelnut pie.

A very large dollop of Cool Whip with a side of pumpkin pie 😉 and apple and cherry pie. We also usually have a chocolate pudding cake, several kinds of cookies, m&ms, assorted candy, nuts, etc for munching.

While all those pies look very tasty, I am one of those odd people who much prefer more of the savoury stuff than the pies. I have the slimmest sliver of whatever pie our hosts make because they went to a lot of effort but I am really not a desert person. Give me the turkey, mashed potato’s, brussell sprouts and make sure it is drowning in a rich brown gravy mmmmmmmmm…………….

I agree….savory all the way for me too!

I’m trying your brussel sprouts recipe for Thanksgiving this year Mavis. Thanks! My favorite is mince pie and do you think a huge conglomerate like Stop and Shop carries None-Such or any other “Such” mince pie mix? Noooo! I think I’ll try Whole Foods. Maybe they have it.

I love the almond cream pear tart, however, the link you provided goes to sour cherry pie….would love to have it if it’s available.
Thanks

I’ve always been tempted to make Chumpcan pie, but I’ve never actually done it. https://parsleysagesweet.com/2011/11/15/11750/#gsc.tab=0
This year, we’re doing a frozen apple pie (I make great homemade pie but grew up eating frozen, so it’s nostalgic) and maybe pumpkin if I have time.
