Make 12 Totally British Recipes In The AGA.
I am VERY much looking forward to making a few pies this week. So far on my list are a cranberry pear pie and a cherry pie. Who knows, I may get a little crazy and make another!
After the pies, I am going to get serious about finishing up this goal and making a few British recipes.
British recipes I’ve made in the AGA so far:
- Pear Frangipane Tart
- Cauliflower, Broccoli and Squash Casserole
- English Muffins
- Currant Scones
- Sticky Toffee Pudding
- Beef In Horseradish Cream
Turn The Craft Room Into a Proper Studio Space
I’m back to researching Juki sergers. I was in Portland a few days ago but totally forgot to stop by the sewing store.
Changes I plan on making to the space:
Rip out the old gross carpetand replace itFresh paintA proper light fixture- New serger
New work table{I bought 3!}A sitting area with a spot to hook
Hook 100 Rugs {81 of 100 done so far}
I was able to get another 4 more rugs finished this past week including this Tom Turkey rug that I have listed in my Etsy shop. While 19 rugs seem like a lot to finish in just 6 weeks, I really don’t have anything major on my to-do list so I should be able to get them done.
I love this goal, it helps me from slacking off and motivates me to make more time for something I love.
Create 15 New Rug Hooking Patterns {12 of 15 completed so far}
I have two new patterns & kits I’ll be listing later today. One is this cute little potted tulip and another is a set of trees. Once I get those listed I only have one more to go!
New patterns I’ve added to my Etsy shop in 2023:
- Betty’s Big Chickens with American Flag
- Fair Isle Sheep
- Olde Hares
- Antique Hearts and Flowers
- Fat Cat with Easter Eggs
- Fat Cat with Shamrocks
- Fat Cat with Hearts
- Horse and Hearts
- Valentine Kitties
- Little Chicken
- Hit and Miss Flower Basket
- Mable’s Kittens
Revisit An Old Friend. FAIL
Maybe next year? — I’ll tell you about it towards the end of the year. 😉
Grow 1,000 Pounds of Vegetables In The Religious Family Sized Garden FAIL
The grass seed the HH planted in the field came in nicely. Next year I think I’ll be concentrating on raised beds and container gardening. Then again, I suppose I won’t know for sure until next Spring.
Empty The Canning Cupboard / Fill The Canning Cupboard
This past week we cracked open another jar of jam and a jar of canned brushetta and enjoyed them on toasted bread.

26 Official Date Days With My Handsome Husband {25 down, 1 to go}
This past week the HH spent date day at the Portland Art Museum. The last time I went was about 2 years ago and so it was a good visit. There were a lot of Winslow Homer paintings this time around.
We also discovered the fun and quirky work of Matt Blackwell. 🙂 His paintings are super funky and we found ourselves looking at them for the longest time trying to find all the different elements in them.
Museums are cool… And that’s all I have to say about that.

Goals already accomplished 2023:
Go On A Solo Adventure. Done
A solo adventure to Fair Isle. I don’t think I could have picked a more unique, isolated and cozy spot to spend a few weeks. I’m already dreaming of going back.
Take An Adult Education Class Done
The Girl and I took a 3 day British Baking Classics course at King Arthur Flour in Norwich, Vermont and had a good time.
Set Aside 200 Items For A Yard Sale DONE!
The yard sale was a great success! The Duck Lady and I were both able to get rid of a lot of items we didn’t want and as an added bonus, I only had 1 box of stuff to drop off at the thrift store. Yee-Haw!
How about YOU? How are you coming along with your goals for this year?

I have seen ideas where people make candles with the extra large clam shells. They fill the shell with wax (and a wick) – Pinterest has lots examples.
I am almost done with my Christmas shopping. My goal is to get it done by Thanksgiving. I only have 1 more adult gift to buy and a bunch of treats for various pets. I am waiting for a BOGO sale on pet treats before I buy those. Now I will have time to get everything else done . . .maybe . . . ha ha ha

The Tom turkey rug is beautiful!!! You are so talented!!!!

There are a number of Pinterest crafts for clam shell ornaments. Santas, angels, snowmen, etc. I guess you could either make the ornaments for the sake of ornaments or put a few on a wreath.

I’ve seen decoupaged oysters/clamshells that are stunning. They used printed paper napkins and painted the outer rim gold and drilled a small hangy hole. Crafters may want them.
Christy says
Ornaments with the clam shells. Paint something “maine-y” on it: lobster, lighthouse, etc.
Rosaleen says
If those are very large clam shells, how about some sort of kit that you might sell? I see those beauties and think of stuffed clams. Make a dry mix with bread crumbs, seasonings, etc., plus a recipe for stuffed clams. You could include cans of clams appropriate to the recipe or market the mix and shells as “All You Need But The Clams Stuffed Clam Kit.” Charge more if you include canned clams, of course, but you know that the shipping will be steep.
Cathy says
Sell the shells on Etsy for crafters or decoupage them yourself then sell them. I’ve seen trinket dishes, ornaments, candles, etc. I have bought some oyster shells myself for crafting! Use pretty paper napkins for the decoupage paper. Happy Thanksgiving!
Celeste says
I’ve seen many coastal landscape and animal painted clamshells at seacoast New England craft fairs -many are super cute painted on the inside with a hole drilled in the top and a red ribbon for ornaments, others paint outside scenes. Personally, I think the ones painted on the inside instead of the outside are prettier.

I just completed my Sunday goal of making marmalade with the Robertsons Seville oranges you recommended. Total winner! I’ll never buy marmalade again. So easy and it has just the right amount of slight bitterness I love. I’m going to have a hard time parting with all these lovely jars but they are headed for Christmas gift baskets.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’m so glad you liked it!! Super easy too. 🙂
Mrs HB says
How about a Christmas tree or Angle with those clam shells? Stack them up alternating around and around then a little star fish on top of tree .
Linda says
Maybe a windchime from the shells would be nice.

I’ve accomplished a few of my goals so far this year. We visited a new country (Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico), a new state (West Virginia and Maryland). I finished my continuing education that’s due 12/31 by doing a few hours each month instead of having to scramble at the end of the year. We saved all the cash needed to buy our leased car when the lease is up next June (finished this goal early). We installed a dehumidification system in the house, get our piano tuned and hang photos in the office. We also had listed to volunteer at a food bank and Saturday we were a part of handing out 100 bags of food to the needy.
However, we failed at having a “no spend” month. . . and I failed to go to the gym 3 days a week . . .

You could use the shells to make a bunting banner — you could use shells of all kinds that people would hang like a bunting banner in a beach themed home.
Karen says
Try making mince pies for Christmas, doesn’t get more British (or more Christmassy) than that!
