It’s been a very busy last few weeks, and as a result, we haven’t been eating really well. Mainly take out and whatever random bits there were to use up. Luckily though, those days are behind us. That is, until we find a new place and it’s time to move in.
House hunting.. It’s hard! Especially when there’s not a whole lot on the market and everything gets snatched up quickly. It’s like you literally have to refresh the real estate listings every hour of every day and then drop everything and do a drive by.
Not that anything has popped up yet. And quite honestly, with our track record, we’ll know it when we see it. In fact every house we’ve ever bought {and there have been 9 so far} was the first {and only} house we looked at. Which probably sounds weird to most people, but what do I know?
Anyway…. Back to the meals.
Like I said, it wasn’t a steller week in the healthy eating arena. Tasty, but not healthy. 😉
Pizza and sheet pan nachos. Back to back. Maybe I should go on one of those smoothie cleanse diets that hippy dippy people do.
Are those vegetables? Yes, yes I think they are.
Trader Joe’s $39.27
Once we got to the Airbnb, the HH did a Trader Joe’s run.
I only had a bite of the peanut noodle bowl but he said it was really good and that he’d totally buy it again.
Market Basket $14.79
Apparently we are now the people that buy the fancy yogurts in glass jars. Fact: Market Basket is WAY cheaper than Scamaford. WAY cheaper.
Walmart $11.84
Last week someone mentioned how much they love the beans from The Serious Bean Company. Well, we do too!!! Thank you so much for your recommendation. Seriously, these beans are insanely flavorful. We had them over nachos. I love it when we find a new product that actually lives up to the hype.
Just as soon as we got settled into the Airbnb, I hopped a flight to the PNW for a quick Mother’s day visit. Bacon and eggs at 30,000 feet. Not too shabby if you ask me.
We hit up our favorite meal spots. {The Nordstrom Cafe for chicken cobb salads} and Earl’s for a steak dinner.
It was a quick trip {less than 48 hours on the ground}. And now I’m back “home”. This week will be heavy on fruit and vegetables and I’m hoping to get a lot of walking in. There’s a lot of rain in the forecast though so we’ll see.
The weather here in Maine changes so quickly… And weather reports can’t be relied on so I don’t even know why I bother looking at them.
Life, you just have to get up and roll with what it gives you each day. Hopefully soon it will be a house. But for now, we’ll just live in this weird state of uncertainty.
I hope you have a wonderful week wherever you are. 🙂
Peace Out.

I’m excited about your new adventure! I said to my family, “Mavis and her husband sold their house!” It was a conversation at the dinner table. I hope you find a wonderful new home! I’m looking forward to reading about it.
Thanks for the Serious Bean Co. recommendation. Beans are a staple in my diet. I’m adding them to my Walmart cart. So many delicious -sounding options!

Thank you Laura. You’ll love the beans! They are super flavorful!!

Been there, done that! We must have looked at 20 houses before we found one that would work. We lived in our RV at a nice campground for 96 days and the worst part was the uncertainty of when we would finally find a house. Moving is not for the faint of heart right now! Wishing you the best of luck and sending good house vibes your way!

With so many readers wondering WHY you sold as now you are in the real estate market again maybe you could share the reasons. It seems to me that money offered was probably the main reason but what do I know. It did seem with all the energy you put into the house and it was a beautiful house, why go on to something else? Also, many people have asked did you leave the Aga? and you havent directly answered that. we are all assuming you did as I’m sure it would be difficult to move but again, I think your readers would like a direct answer.
Also the best beans, in my opinion are Rancho Gordo Heirloom beans.

We put a lot of energy into every house we sell and I know moving as much as we have over the years isn’t for everyone. As I mentioned before, it was time to move on, so we moved. And we are off to the next one. And yes, the Aga went with the house {I’ve already mentioned that too, maybe you missed it}. 🙂 It was such a specific size, it had to stay. It was my favorite stove of all time, but the color definitely fit the coastal vibe.

It’ll be exciting for sure. The Aga did fit the house perfectly. Best of luck with it all!!

And no mention of the spectacular weather here for the past several days?!!
Hoping you enjoyed your trip back and maybe even got a peek at the northern lights!
Mavis Butterfield says
80 degrees!!! It was crazy.

Flexibility is the name of the game!! I know I will probably need to move eventually as this house will be too much for us to keep up with in the “not too distant” future. I don’t mind the packing (gives me a chance to get rid of stuff) and the unpacking (gives me a nice clean slate to work with). But it will be totally exhausting . . .
Hope you find your next home soon!

In going to be Pollyanna and say as you’ve sold your house and will have money in hand, you will be an attractive buyer because you can move faster. In May of 2021, we had to move out of our rental. Stayed with dd for 6 days until that blew up. No rentals in 100 miles for weeks – they never made it online. On September 10, we finally moved into a house. We stayed in hotels all that time. I hate that we had to spend that money, but it was fun. I hope you find something soon. I’m just trying to figure out where you put all of your yarn and rugs that you sell so you can ship everything.

I was going to suggest a tiny home – some of them are SO stinking cute and surprisingly spacious but I think with your crafting it would be hard to make that work. But I do love the efficiency and flexibility it provides.

I would like to know if you left the AGA stove? I know you loved it (and paid a lot of money for it!)
Cathy says
Sorry -just read the back comments! Good luck finding a new place!

Wow, you sold your house without a plan of where you were going. That’s what I call an adventure! Are you free to settle down anywhere?

Since you have proven yourself to be The Queen of buying and selling a home maybe you could put together your tips for making the process easier and less expensive? Any tips to minimize the cost of selling? Wishing you the best as you are on the hunt for a new home.

Would love a post like this too!! We are movers, hope to stop moving so quickly eventually but (as you also say) life…. Gotta roll with it.

I saw this house and thought of you! Then you sold your house and are looking. MLS 170623921 – however it is in CT. This is a wonderful small community on the shore. Just in case you like it.

Love Old Lyme. And it’s still relatively close to Boston and Providence and easy to take the train to NYC. What an adorable house!!!
Lori K says
It is! My family lives there, I lived in Old Saybrook and Niantic as a child and I love going to visit my family in Old Lyme. Local Mom and Pop places, small town charm, and like you said easy access to bigger places!
Sue says
Eh, I don’t think that house is Mavis’ style.
It’s too hemmed in by neighbors, and that weird massive deck construction off to the side has no shading or screening, and is so far from house/food/electricity. Taste is subjective, of course, but I wouldn’t want that place even if I had the $850K to spend.

I will have to live vicariously through your buying and selling adventures. =)
