The pressure is on here at Santa’s Workshop. The neighbors have begun to decorate for Christmas and we’re starting to see people putting up their Christmas lights. Things are getting intense!
This town and the neighboring ones really get into the Christmas spirit and we’re really looking forward to being a part of it this year.
We went all out for Halloween and for Christmas we are going to do the same. The HH has turned the barn into a wooden buoy factory of sorts and has been churning them out non stop.
He cuts and sands the buoys. But that’s where his craftiness stops. It’s up to me and my elves to do all the rest. Which is fine, I LOVE painting. I really do. It’s so calming.
We had decided to stick with the traditional colors of red, green and white for Christmas. But now we’re thinking it might be fun to paint some snowmen on a couple of them. We’ll see.
I had originally planned on using the same type of lobster pot rope {poly something or rather} but apparently they only sell the rope in 1,200 foot bales.
And well, that’s just a wee bit more rope than I need. {I found the rope I used for the Halloween buoys this spring when it had washed ashore on the beach. That’s what started this whole buoy idea!!}
So I dug through the sale bin at Hamilton Marine and went with a different type of rope for the Christmas buoys.
Now comes the hard part. Getting the next round of buoys painted.
You would think getting 3 dozen wooden buoys painted in an afternoon would be a breeze, right? Wrong!
One person on the team went rogue and has decided they want their buoys to have candy cane strips. This takes time!! Oh well. As long as we get everything done by this time next week, we’ll be fine. Decorations are going up the day after Thanksgiving.
Still On The {Outside} To-Do List
- Finish painting buoys {paint, sand, stain, add rope}
- Finish making lobster ornaments for the tree
- Hang Christmas lobsters on house
- Hang giant wreaths on house
- Decorate front fence with garland and buoys
I’d stay and chat some more, but my shift at the wooden buoy factory is about to start. So here’s to a happy and productive day.
Have a good one,
~Mavis

Very curious about the rope factory!
How much does a piece of mill end rope cost?
Wish we had one here (I live in the Gig Harbor, WA area). That is something my boys would love.
Mavis Butterfield says
They were between $5- $15 each. 🙂

So much fun, looking forward to the big reveal! Any thoughts of double using the red and white for valentine’s or 4th of July? a snowman on one side and a heart or star on the other?
