I feel like I’ve been talking about wanting to visit Québec City for over a year now and I’m so glad we are finally here! We are having the best time!! A surprisingly really good time actually.
After hearing a bunch of you chime in and say we should stay in Old Town, and that a trip to the city wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, after looking the Château up online, I knew that’s where I wanted to stay.
We were able to get a deal on a Fairmont Gold City View Room at The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac I think, in part to our stay being during the week AND, because we booked it sort of at the last minute.
At the time of our booking there were two rooms available, a regular room and a Fairmont Gold city view room.
The Fairmont Gold city view room was $100 CAD {$70 USD} more a night, but the room was bigger than the size of the regular room AND since the room was on the “gold floor” it included a deluxe breakfast buffet and appetizers in the evenings.
$70 more a night for a larger room and all the food we could eat. Yep. That was a no brainer for me. So I went ahead and booked the room.
I LOVE fancy hotels. Just as much as I like small quirky English cottages.
And considering the fact that our only travel expense getting here was a tank of gas {there were no direct flights} this has probably been one of the less expensive European type vacations I’ve been on in a long time.
The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous! And the hotel staff has been incredibly kind and welcoming. The lobby, the hallways, the shops, the room, everything inside and out of this place is just beautiful and so well maintained.
Here’s a look at our Fairmont Gold City View Room at The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac when we checked in.
Check out the view!!
Isn’t it magical with the snow covered roofs? A view of the river would have been more money {so this one was fine with us!}.
A note on the shower. The shower door opens INWARD. If you are bigger than me {ie: the HH} you might have a slight difficulty getting into the shower and closing the door.
The bathroom was a bit on the small side, but we’re used to European bathrooms so this wasn’t a big deal to us, but for some people it might be.
Nespresso!
The HH loved this little coffee machine. I am now in love with their creamy earl grey tea.
When you book a Fairmont Gold City View Room at The Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, you get to have breakfast {and evening appetizers} in this beautiful room.
This is my favorite spot in the whole place.
I don’t know how many people it holds, but there are a bunch of smaller tables as well. I just couldn’t get a photo without a bunch of people in it so I didn’t take one.
Hot breakfast bar.
Fruit and yogurt station.
Juice bar.
Meat and cheese. You’d never see this at a breakfast bar in the states.
There are lots of pastries too. And an oatmeal station with all the extra bits.
The apple donut and bruschetta omelet has been my favorite thing so far.
Just one of the evening “appetizers”. Seriously, if you love pickety bits as much as I do, this is the place!
We haven’t even made it to a restaurant yet. 😉 The upgrade to the Fairmont Gold City View room has been totally worth it to us.
I don’t want to leave. I told the HH I could hole up here for a month and get so much done. I’d never have to leave the hotel thanks to all the food on the gold floor.
A girl can dream, right?

We stayed at Monsieur Jean last year but we will definitely stay here next time! Monsieur Jean was very nice & had excellent service but the food was completely lacking for me being gluten free. Thankfully, Bistro Hortus was across the street so we just ate there a lot (& crave it all the time now!). Now I’m even more excited about going back for a visit, though, & staying at this hotel next time! It’s walking distance to everywhere anyway, & what a view!

Do you think you’ll need to use your car for sightseeing while you’re there? Wondering if those of us who might fly in would need a rental car or if everything is accessible by walking or public transportation. Thank you!

Hi-My family lives in Old Quebec City. The airport is about 20 minutes outside the city, but there are hotel shuttles. It is easy to drive around Quebec City (except Old Town parking) In the winter it is quite icy.
It is worth renting a car as there is so much to see outside the city. Ilse De Orleans for one. You won’t be disappointed if you go. You will feel as though you are in Europe. And most speak some English-but French is the language.

This accommodation looks wonderful! Can you tell us about parking your car? Do you have to pay extra to park at the hotel and do you need your car to explore or can you walk where you want to go in the old town section?

If you look out towards the river-on the point is a compound for the British Royals. It is where the Queen stayed when she visited.
There is a lovely park you can walk to-and see the big hill that takes you down to the highway heading out of the city-along the river.
