We walked by Le Lapin Sauté the and I fell in love with the way they had decorated the front of their restaurant. All the flower pots, the garden tools… It was just so perfect.
Le Lapin Sauté must look magical in the summer with the window boxes above filled with flowers dripping down the sides of the stone building. I told the HH we have to come back next summer!!
And the pinecone wreath!!! Oh my. I’m going to need to make one of those!
I bet there isn’t a drop of hot glue in there either! Note to self: Start collecting pine cones. And teeny tiny flower pots.
After we got back to the hotel we checked the online reviews and then immediately made reservations for dinner.
And it was just as magical inside too. Cozy, warm, welcoming, great staff… and the things you hope for in a small restaurant.
There was a bit of a woodsy rabbit theme going on… Which was delightful.
We both ordered the french onion soup. It had a slice of bread on the bottom of the dish and was topped with a ridiculous amount of cheese. The soup was wonderful. And surprisingly filling.
I ordered a poached pear in chocolate sauce that was topped with chocolate cookie bits. It was another winner. A 10/10.
The HH had their creme brulee. I had a tiny taste… and it too was a great choice.
We rode the funicular up the hill and walked back along the path to the hotel. It was a magical end to a perfect mini holiday break.
One thing I know for sure… We’ll be back. Be back to Le Lapin Sauté and back to the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.
If you ever get the chance to go to Québec City, do it!!! You’ll be so glad you did!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, stay warm!

I was there back in the early 90’s for a ski trip. We stayed at that hotel and had a beautiful seven course meal for New Year’s Eve! It was soooo cold though, everyone was wearing a fur coat. I’d love to go back now in the summer.

Why not order the rabbit when you are at a restaurant called le Lapin sauté ?

Lapin Sauté literally means Crazy Rabbit in the Quebecois dialect— hence the “woodsy rabbit” theme. Sounds like a great cozy little place for dinner.
Mary says
Understandable about the woodsy theme at the restaurant.. .Le lapin means “the rabbit”. And the Sauté can either be jumped, or… the cooking term….

That looked delicious!

The window display and one bone wreath are totally awesome looking. Yes to collecting pines cone and small clay pots I like this one too. The hotel looked so nice and the brunch and everning appetizer look so delicious that it made up for differences in price. Ever season would be neat to see how they decorate. Glad you two went and had a enjoyable time.

Yes to the wreath! And then you can do a little tutorial so the rest of us can mark one, too! 😉

Lovely! I like both of those wreaths, in fact. And the look of that French onion soup! and the pear! Well, and the crème brûlée, too — yes, please!
