Yesterday the HH and I were out and about and I came across this “winter hours” sign and thought it was funny. I remember when we first moved to the East Coast and saw one of these signs on a shop and just couldn’t understand the reasoning behind it.
It’s a business, wouldn’t you want to have normal hours? Be open all the time? You know, so you could make money?
But in Maine, things are a little different. Especially in the tourist towns… People take time off. And I think it’s pretty genius.
I mean really, as a business owner why stay open if nobody is going to be coming in to buy anything? You might as well rest up, get some things done around the place, go on a vacation and open back up when you know there will be oodles of customers.
Another thing I love about Maine… People don’t take themselves too seriously. 😉
Another thing I spotted while we were out and about… This piece of fine art. Paint cans soldered together and placed in a frame.
Kind of a clever idea… But not at $499.
Or even $199.
One amazing deal we did find though on our big day out… Was the hot food section at Market Basket. I thought I misread the sign when I saw a cheeseburger and fries for $2.99!
$2.99 for a cheeseburger and fries? When was the last time you saw that!? I had to order it.
And you know what? For $2.99, I think it was a heck of a deal and I’d get it again. I’m pretty sure the same thing would be over $10 at McDonalds.
And last but not least, my new mouse arrived yesterday while we were out. I finally opened the Apple computer a few days ago but got frustrated and closed it after about 10 minutes of trying to use it.
My old mouse wouldn’t work with it and I am just not a fan of the “trackpad” so the HH gave me his mouse to use but it was so huge {more for someone with hands the size of the Jolly Green Giant} that I couldn’t get the hang of that either.
I dislike the Apple immensely. I know practically all of you have said it’s SO MUCH better… So much EASIER to use… but so far I’m not seeing it.
I’ll give it another go this weekend with the new mouse. I want to like it, I really do, but so far it’s not going well.
Learning new things… Especially when you don’t have an interest in them, stinks!
But hey, a cheeseburger and fries for $2.99!! What a deal. 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone, I hope you have some fun.

I’m with you, Mavis: yay cheeseburger and boo Apple laptop.

Same. I didn’t want to be Debbie Downer when she asked about the Mac but I had one and hated it. Android all the way!
Barbara Dougherty says
Me too.
I didn’t weigh in initially, but wanted to. Once you’re used to PC/android, it is way hard to change over. Not worth the frustration.

I cannot believe that cheeseburger price! What a deal!

Apple iPad convert here- the main reason being that they never ever get viruses. Never.

We are 100% Lenovo here because Hubby worked for IBM. I haven’t ever used any other so it is a seamless transition when I get a new one but maybe it is because my genius Hubby just sets it all up for me to look exactly the same???
We have a produce market in the little town where our vacation house is located but you better follow him of Facebook if you want to shop there because he posts everyday when he will be there. I think it is a great idea!
That burger looks ten times better than anything you can get a McDonald’s! Heck, I’d just go there when I want a burger because you sure can’t make it at home for that!

Also, try a track ball mouse. The only kind we use. It has a ball on the top to move and your hand stays still.

I’m on the hunt for a new mouse – can you give a link to the one you bought? Thanks!

I love how the paint can art is on clearance at $199. I’m thinking it’s not going anywhere.
I used Apple computers until my workplace made us switch to standard PCs. My daughter had an Apple through high school and early college but then switched to a PC when she needed to buy her own because it was much cheaper.
They are good computers and last longer than standard PCs (they should, given the price). I hope you get to like it.

The lack of “constant updating” that drove me CRAZY with Windows systems won’t be missed at all. I too dragged feet on the switch but it is totally worth it. Especially if you have an iphone

We are a non-apple family here. My husband is an electrical engineer and he just doesn’t like their products. We get along just fine without them. You like what you like and swapping platforms can be pretty difficult.

I’m with you on the great hamburger deal and Apple. I’m a PC and android girl myself. Had an iPhone for a couple of years and couldn’t wait to get rid of it. Plus then if you get one device I suppose you need to change out your others like tablets, etc? Smart branding on their part I suppose. Buy one and they’ve got you for everything.

I too find Apple computers – and phones – confusing and harder to use than PC’s and Android phones… It just isn’t intuitive to me. My Apple computer friends continuous have difficulty with Family History software and messages I send them – as the world really is more Android than Apple and often software is written for Android first and then they try to get it to work on Apple… less features work well that way. And switching things – esp when there isn’t wrong with the thing you are familiar with – is super hard.

I agree with using the trackball mouse. There is a learning time frame in adjusting to new machines . Please be patient and in time you will have a better understanding of the way Macs operate and enjoy them immensely!
I speak from experience of moving to a Mac and now I wouldn’t own any other computer now.

No fan of anything other than Apple products! I went to work in 1991 for a husband and wife. He is severely dyslexic, and a Mac is the only computer he could learn to use. Back then there were huge differences between computer platforms, now they are more alike than dissimilar. Everyone is right because it’s what works best for you.

It’s a bummer about your MAC. I worked on a PC all my career-but used MACs at home, I really didn’t see much difference. I also got used to the track pad quickly and prefer it now.
I really don’t see much difference.
Give it another chance, they are much better machines.
Hang in there-good things come to those who wait.

The only reason we have an iPad in our house is because the furnace app only runs on it. I am tired of the seemingly constant update notifications I get on it. Much prefer my built to specs PC or my laptops.
