Yesterday I worked on putting the finishing touches on our Valentine’s Day display.
Initially I wasn’t going to go all out for Valentine’s Day. I thought bats on the house for Halloween and lobsters crawling all over the house for Christmas were probably festive enough.
Until I was in a store the other day and the cashier mentioned that lot’s of stores {and people} go all out for Valentine’s Day too and yada yada yada was I going to be decorating too?
I almost fell over laughing. I guess once you start something around here you can’t stop. 😉
Five foot hearts… That should do the trick, right?
I asked the HH to pick out a nice, bright candy pink color at the hardware store… I think he nailed it. Well done HH!
Yesterday I painted two coats of outdoor paint on the hearts. Normally I would have done this in the barn but it’s like 10 degrees in there and I was afraid the paint would take forever to dry.
I told the HH it’s a good thing our kitchen table can double as a work bench if we need it too.
While the paint was drying on the giant hearts yesterday I put a sealer on the buoys and let them dry overnight.
I’ll string them with a pretty sea glass blue color of lobster rope I found washed up on the beach later this morning.
The plan is to take down the wreaths and red bows {the HH said the red bows should come down} and somehow get those giant hearts up on the house.
The fresh batch of buoys will go out on the picket fence and then the house will be all done up for Valentine’s Day. 🙂
This house. It sure puts a smile on my face everytime I walk outside. I can only imagine what people are saying when they walk past it.
Nutters. That’s who lives there. A bunch of nutters.

I can’t believe you painted the heart in the kitchen without putting down a drop cloth to cover that lovely floor! Looking forward to see everything outside. Next….Easter??

St Patrick’s day comes first!

We split the cost with 2 neighbors several years ago when it was time to hang Christmas lights and rented a scissor lift. Back then it was quite reasonably priced, but who knows these days!
Mavis Butterfield says
That’s a great idea!
Diane says
No drop cloth? You live dangerously!
You could stencil a message on the heart like “the mine” like the candy hearts!
Mel says
I think she should stencil “Be Maine” instead of “be mine.”
J in OH-IO says
Mel, love your idea – so clever! This could be a new Maine slogan for state tourism!
Richelle says
Excellent idea!
Sue S. says
My thoughts exactly. No drop cloth? On those beautiful wide pine board floors? OMG
Lesley says
The buoys are complete perfection. Please share more about your workspace … those shelves look shallow and long, like they are perfect for wrapping gifts or all your crafty things.
We are all nutters. It’s the best.
Trace says
I wish you were my neighbor’s!
Cindy Brick says
Ummmm… do you REALLY want us to answer? 🙂
Honestly, I don’t know where you get the energy. It was all I could do to replace the Christmas wreath with a plastic spray of flowers on the front door.
At least the Christmas tree is down, too. We had a neighbor who kept it up all year, and switched out the decorations, depending on what season it was. My favorite was the Denver Broncos theme.
Holley says
Just think about how many people you make smile with your decorations! Worth it! We all need a smile!

I see Easter eggs coming soon….I mean-you cannot stop now.
Sue S. says
Wait! What? How about St. Paddy’s Day?

I had a homemade contraption that made easter bunny tracks out of baking soda that I tracked over an entire neighborhood…every year by myself for 23 years. I started at 10 pm and ended about 5 am. Every single Easter eve.
I stopped when Covid hit and it started to be too dangerous for an old lady to bunny track all night wearing all black and a back pack full of white powder. ( The police knew me-they ignored my crazy annual event) Nobody knew who did it-but wow-the social media attack when I stopped. People were mad. Like they had a right to get bunny tracks. It was crazy. The scandal of town. Poor bunny…he died a natural death.

23 years!!!
Tamara says
Second “Be Maine”!
Richelle says
What about: Be mine (strikethrough mine like an editor’s mark) Maine
cosgrove says
Did you feel the earthquake? I was worrying about you…
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. It was only 3.8… We thought it was a truck rolling by.
Cathy says
My friend and I saw your house when we went for the Christmas church sale. It looked great!
Mavis Butterfield says
How fun! Maybe I’ll see you next year. 🙂
Carrie Valentin says
I love your decorations and your BOUNDLESS energy to do all of your projects!!! Just wonderful inspiration!
KCB says
Your outside decorations are totally adorable! Don’t be surprised when your house becomes a “must see” in your town! I especially love the lobsters!
