Online Things
It was a good week in the “online things” department!. I stayed off my electronic devices for nearly the entire day yesterday, and completed a special order.
I experimented with dyeing new colors last week {and got 3 winners!} as well as drew a bunch of patterns and put kits together. I’d say I’m at the 25% done mark.
Getting all the wool dyed, patterns drawn, kits put together by March 31st is going to be a challenge. But I wake up everyday reminding myself that if I can get that chunk of work done and out of the way, it will free up an enormous amount of time.
Time I’ll be able to spend in the garden, traveling, hanging out the HH and working on a few other projects I want to get accomplished this year at a much, much more normal pace.
The whole work/life balance thing… It’s hard. But I’m getting there. Slowly but surely.
At this rate I should be able to use the apple in another year or two.
- Reach 20,000 sales in Etsy shop MavisButterfield {I’m currently at 18,239}

House Things
The thought of painting the walls in the downstairs bathroom with all those pipes on the wall was much more than I wanted to deal with this past week so I decided to paint a closet instead. 😉
I LOVE a clean, painted organized closet!!! And now I have one less to paint! Giddy up.
- Paint The Inside Of The House {including closets!}
- Paint The Interior Window Trim
- Remodel Bathroom #1
- Freshen up Bathroom #2
- Put Stuff On The Walls
- Work on “new” Kitchen Game Plan
Garden Things
It’s snowing as we speak so while I’m not working on any outdoor gardening things at the moment, I am gearing up to start some seed sowing indoors.
I put a couple of packets of lavender seeds in the fridge a few weeks ago and in another week or two it will be time to pull them out to plant. I LOVE growing lavender!!!
I’m hoping to grow some for my garden as well as a few extra plants for the garden stand I’ll have out front this summer. {I’m really excited about having a plant/garden/veggie/flower stand!! I think it will do well}.
- Grow 365 pounds of food in my teeny tiny backyard.
- Install a side yard {flower} garden
- Make a Potting Bench
- Make a Garden Cart to sell flowers/veggies out front
Kitchen Things
This past week I shared a recipe for Velveeta Zesty Chili Dip. It’s one of the HH’s favorites.
- Try 12 new recipes
- Fill the canning cupboard
New Recipes I’ve Shared This Year
Travel Things
Nothing new to share in the travel department but I did get a nice letter from Julie in the UK. Thanks Julie!! It’s always nice to see stamps from other countries. 🙂
- Explore more of the great state of Maine
- Go on a painting holiday
- Québec City
- Travel Overseas
- Send the HH on a vacation
Marriage Things
This past week we met up with Kiln Guy and The Chef for tacos and had a good time. The roads have been too icy for walking {I’ve already slipped and fallen once} so that’s on hold for a bit.
I do love the snow, but I also really miss being able to go on long walks and riding my bike around town. Spring, it will be here soon enough. Hopefully not until I get all my rug hooking projects out of the way though.
- Keep my husband busy
- Date days
- Walk more
Secret Projects
I got a chance to discuss secret project #2 this week with one of the people who will be helping me with it. It seems like everytime we talk, the project just gets better and better.
The HH thinks we’re crazy. So I take that as a good sign. Ha!
How about YOU? Are you moving forward with YOUR goals for 2025? I hope you are staying motivated!!

Be careful walking in winter! We live where there’s a lot of winter, plus I’m a very early morning walker-like still dark when I get home-and I’ve fallen many times over the 35ish years I’ve been walking for exercise. Two years ago I slipped on a patch of ice that was covered in snow, fell backwards, and hit my head hard, twice. Ugh. Luckily I was only about two blocks from our house so I sat there for a bit to gather myself and then got up and walked home. No more winter walks outside when it’s icy and dark.

Getting ready to start my pepper and tomato seeds today or tomorrow. Have lots to prep in the garden, and it looks like we may be proceeding with getting chickens again in the spring. We have a lot of lumber and supplies left over from earlier projects so I’m pretty sure we will be building a nice coop soon. Haven’t made much progress with some of my goals, but getting started and letting life intervene along the way!

Have you tried winter sowing? It would free up room in your house and let you start lots and lots of seedlings! Pretty carefree once you do the work of putting them in a milk jug or some people even put them in large baggies! You could do it for flowers, herbs, and vegetables!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! I have tried it.

Hi.
My kids went to college in a cold Idaho town and had lots of ice. So I bought these Yaktrak’s that they can put over their shoes or boots. They work really well.

They are on Amazon as well.

Hi Mavis, did you use Chantilly Lace white again? I am trying to select a good white for my house at the moment and can’t decide! A friend used Simply White and it is also good but I think more yellow/creamy.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, we are using Chantilly Lace again. I love it!!

I have some lavender planted out in the garden, but am hoping to plant more this spring! Now to figure out how to dry it and make sachets with it. Perhaps you have ideas on how to do this 🙂

Mavis could I recommend looking at Icebug boots? I’ve tried the pull on trax, boots with diamond grit sandpaper and goodness knows how many other things over the years. A PT in Canada recommended these boots and they are AMAZING! I simply can’t slip while wearing them, even on glassy ice or black ice. They’ve given me back my Winter walks. They’re expensive. But much cheaper than the broken hip I’d risk without them! They have held up well over three years and you can walk right into the grocery store wearing them if you don’t mind a little clicking.
Mavis Butterfield says
Those look interesting!! Thanks Nancy, I am going to look into a pair of those.
