bits and bobs: A random assortment of things; small remaining pieces and things
I think the artsy stuff people make are fascinating. It’s the things that you don’t set out to make… that are the most fun.
I can’t stop myself from checking BoardTalkStudio’s Etsy page every few days to see what she has made. Something tells me we’d get along in real life.
It was finally my turn to listen to Long Island {the follow up to the book Brooklyn} by Colm Tóibín. It was a 10/10 for me although the ending reminded me of the George Lucas quote “We are all living in cages with the door wide open”.
I won’t give anything away, but I will say that I am glad I am not an indecisive person.
I also listened to Dear Santa by Debbie Macomber. It was super cheesy and predictable but great for background “noise” while I was rug hooking. 🙂
Have you read/listened to any good books lately? Do tell.
Sea Holly Cottage is still for sale… I can’t believe it. I told the HH I want to go look at it. He said No, way…. It only has 1 bathroom. I don’t see that as a deterrent, do you? I mean when a place is only 705 square feet, you can’t get everything on your list, right?
If you would live anywhere, would you rather look out your window and have a view of the countryside, the mountains, or the beach?
According to the internet, people with “Grandma hobbies” {ie: baking bread, knitting, bird watching, gardening} have better mental health as those types of hobbies can bring you joy as well as calm you down. Do you agree? I know rug hooking is extremely calming for me and gardening, well that does bring me lots and lots of joy.
And last but not least… The secret to a long marriage? They’ve got the answer. 😉 *Notice who did all the talking? 😉
Have a great weekend everyone.
And if you’re headed out to the clubs, don’t forget the glitter.

I recently listened to Hello Beautiful and read Dear Edward, both by Ann Napolitano. I loved both and am looking forward to reading Within Arm’s Reach by the same author. I also loved The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett – she’s such a great author. Happy reading!
Grandma hobbies are the best – I’m a rug hooker, gardener, baker and have recently learned to crochet. I used to be a knitter but it causes me so much elbow pain that I had to give it up. Hobbies like these are very calming but also good for the brain. 🙂

You absolutely need to go look at Sea Holly Cottage! It will torment you till the day you die if you don’t. I would probably prefer a view of the countryside with mountains in the far distance.

In a perfect world, a view of a lake.
If not, a view with lots of trees.

We have a beautiful woods view and we own a vacation house on a lake which is my happy place. No way we could afford the vacation house now but 25 years ago it was a deal.
One bathroom? NO! Our daughter lived in Germany for five years on an apartment that was two bathrooms but one had a shower and a sink and the other a toilet and sink. That was one bathroom as far as I am concerned.

A body of water. We lived 10 miles from Myrtle Beach for a year and had a big retention pond in our back yard and it was the happiest year for me. The back of the house was mostly windows and there was a bright glare all the time but to watch it shimmering, ducks choosing it for a rest, bugs dancing and making tiny ripples, oh the simple joy I felt.
At the same time, we lived in the mountains of NC near Boone and had mountain views. Out my kitchen window, there was a small mountain that a cattle farm encompassed. I called it Cow Hill because the cows would graze there in the mornings and I would watch them while I was fixing breakfast or doing dishes.

The beach definitely. I feel so much better when I see the sea and love to beachcomb.

I think my “grandma hobbies” are the only thing keeping me sane these days! I don’t know where I would be without them! Yes I do – locked up tight somewhere, dressed in a lovely white jacket!!!
I could not choose the view I would like the best. I like all of them. I actually live on a lake, but cannot see it from my house, but have a wooded back and neighbors across the front. I see deer every single day and all sorts of other animals. I love it here!

I would love to live with a view like from the Big Bear Lake eagle cam.

Funny Story by Emily Henry. The audio version is terrific- much better than just reading the book.
The Weissmans of Westport by Cathleen Schine. Again- the audio version is best.
Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle.

It is interesting what you shared about how certain hobbies such as knitting etc benefit even our health. I have a book someplace (we just moved so in disarray yet) that is about how knitting actually heals traumas in the brain (emotional ones). I cannot knit but do crochet and I feel it must heal as well. It also involves both hands, so one would think it could. I find your varied subjects interesting!
