Yesterday I got up, looked out the window and was like… Yep, it’s go time! Today is the first day of gardening season here at the lobster house. Let’s get this party started.
The HH just rolled his eyes at me.
I think it’s because he knows what’s coming… Projects. Lot’s and lot’s of gardening projects.
I told him attitude is everything.
He disagreed.
Whatever. The sooner we get on with it, the sooner the projects get done and then we’ll be able to relax for the rest of the summer.
Somehow though, I don’t think he believes me.
I have no idea why.
Garden Project #1
Paint the wooden sign I picked up at the ReUse Store. I’m thinking maybe a white sign with black lettering that says “The Lobster House” with maybe some lobsters crawling about.
What do you think? Do you have any better ideas? Do tell.
The plan is to hang it high over the doorway {which will be painted black}. Eventually I’d like to get a Dutch door but the door would be the HH’s department and well you know… That would require some research.
Garden Project #2
The garden trolley. I picked this up last summer at an estate sale. I had no idea what I was going to use it for at the time but I had to have it.
Now I’m thinking it would be perfect to set out front with plant starts and flowers on it.
It even has a little drawer on the side where people could put the money.
I figure if I only have a few bouquets to sell I can just leave the sides down. But if I have a lot of items… Like cut flowers and fresh veggies, I could put the sides up to make a little table.
Do you think I should paint it or leave it the way it is? If I painted it I might go with a red and white theme to match the house.
Then again, I’d likely only be selling during the summer months and the house/buoys would be a red/white/blue theme so maybe keeping the table blue and white is the way to go?
I even thought about painting “Fresh Flowers” on one of the sides and a little arrow with “pay here” that would point to the money drawer. What do you think about this?
Maybe you have a better idea?
Garden Project #3
The side yard.
The HH said we shouldn’t plant anything over there. He told me nothing would grow over there because that side of the house didn’t get any sun.
So I went outside and took a picture. Do you see how sunny it is?
For an area that doesn’t get any sunshine, I think it’s pretty amazing that catmint, hostas and hydrangeas flourished in that spot last summer.
I’m no gardening expert but it sure sounds more like someone is trying to get out of digging a border {on both sides} for me.
But what do I know? I’m just a girl with a vision and that vision includes a LOT of flowers!!
Garden Project #4
Slow down and enjoy the process. I know that once this garden is planted with perennials… That’s it.
We have a teeny tiny lot. Once it’s done, it’s done. The only thing left will be figuring out where to grow vegetables.
On one hand that’s very exciting. On the other hand… I wonder what in the world I’m going to do with all my spare time after the garden beds are in.
The Tête-à-Tête daffodils are beginning to open up front and the peas are popping through the soil inside.
It won’t be long now until we’re swimming in tulips and tomato plants. And you know what? After such a long and cold winter, it’s pretty darn exciting.
The weather may be a bit hit and miss this week {more hits than misses} but it’s go time baby! It’s finally time to get out there and garden like a rockstar. Yee-Haw!

I think the sort of scalloped shape on the edge of each side of the sign almost matches the shape of a lobster. So you could do one on each side framing it.
Teresa says
I like the sign the way it is! Tres chic!
Jess McCarthy says
I agree 100 percent!

Me too! I think you should leave the sign and think of Quebec City every time you look at it. I vote for leaving the garden cart blue and I love the painted instructions on the side. Also, I think you should dig out a few small beds but leave the side yard planted in grass, maybe get some raised bed planters for your veggies.

Yes!! Before reading I thought black door and red topped cart to match the Lobster house. That’s a fabulous find! Removable shelving could be set on top if needed to sell more products. Love the sign too. Matching the items to your house/car would look fab.
Are you thinking of sealing the top of the cart with anything to prevent water damage?
Around here people would steal money left in a drawer unless the money box is attached somehow.
Excited to see how this ends up!

Oh how I love (and covet) that sign just the way it is. Made my heart beat a bit faster heck I think it even set off my pacemaker.
Jamie says
I’d leave the cart. It looks perfect!
Lesley says
Both cart and sign are fabulous finds! The cart lends itself perfectly to your plans for the “shop” out front. If you paint the word “flowers” on the side, will all the people who want veggies walk right past?
I like the blue/white cart against all of your red pops of color (including the fabulous vehicle).

For the sign
maison Lobster
The sign looks French, so it should have a touch of French
Bonnie in GA says
The cart is a work of art…..it’s perfect the way it is! The sign is awesome too!
Lucy from South Carolina says
The cart is beautiful!
Julie says
For the cart, how about covering the blue with black or a dark grey? That would give a good background for the pop of color from the veggies and cut flowers. And also adding a couple of painted lobsters to match the house? The black, red, and white would match the house and the vehicle.
Or, leave it as is and use seasonal table clothes that would match the bouys?

I hope he hides.
