Online Things
Things are going well in the online department. I took a week off from rug hooking this past week to work on other things like organize my work space in the barn {I’m 90% there!} but am getting ready to start big rug #3.
I’m hoping to have it done by the end of May {if not sooner}. It will be another whale rug {I seem to be on a whale kick lately} and there will be lot’s of blue in it.
I think one of the things I like most about making rugs is using hand dyed wool. Even though I use the same formulas, each piece of wool comes out just a wee bit different. I love that!
I did a good job staying off the internet {except to work} and had a pretty productive week.
Online Goals for 2025
- Reach 20,000 sales in Etsy shop MavisButterfield {I’m currently at 18,770}
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 31st{DONE!}- Create 4 new patterns/kits {2 completed so far; Great Black Whale Rug and Pod of Black Whales
- Take all new pictures + videos for Etsy shop {in progress}
Get as much as humanly possible done online January – March of this year.- Stop picking up my phone so much {Doing great with this!}
- Spend less than 3 hours a day online {Yep!}
- Tidy up the back end of the blog
House Things
The painting job in the downstairs bathroom {walls and trim} is finally done and the HH hung up the mirror. I ordered a frame for a print I have but apparently I ordered the wrong size and had to place an order for a another frame.
I gave up on trying to find a solution for covering the wall of pipes {for now}. The HH tried to install the new facet for the sink but was having a really tough time with it.
Maybe he’ll try again in a few days, or maybe we’ll just leave it for now and have the plumber install the new facet when we redo the other bathroom.
We’re getting there! Hopefully we can check this project off our list soon.
- Paint The Inside Of The House {including closets!}
- Paint The Interior Window Trim
- Remodel Bathroom #1
- Freshen up Bathroom #2
- Put Stuff On The Walls
- Work on “new” Kitchen Game Plan
Garden Things
Last week there was snow on the tulips… And now we’re just a day or two from them opening. Hooray!
I have NO IDEA what kind they are!! I lost my map but maybe they are the Charming beauty tulips? Who knows!
I guess we’ll find out together.
Also, the Tête-à-Tête’ daffodils are up! We have 4 or 5 nice sized clusters of them in the front garden bed and we’ve been getting lots of compliments from people walking by.
It’s kind of wild to think I won’t need to plant any bulbs this fall. There’s no more room!! What will I do with all my time once the entire garden is in!?
I might have to get a real job. Or create one for myself.
Also, I had planned to get my tomato seeds planted on the 15th but forgot, so I need to get that done asap.
Garden Goals
- Grow 365 pounds of food in my teeny tiny backyard.
- Install a side yard {flower} garden
- Make a Potting Bench
- Make a Garden Cart to sell flowers/veggies out front
Kitchen Things
We ate food, but that’s about all we did in the kitchen this past week.
I keep planning on trying some recipes from The Kitten and The Bear cookbook but my days are so busy lately!! It’s just easier to make a salad and get on with it,
- Try 12 new recipes {3 down, 9 to go}
- Fill the canning cupboard
New Recipes I’ve Shared This Year
- Double Chocolate Rye Cookies
- Velveeta Zesty Chili Dip
- Haddock and Corn Chowder
- The Best Way To Freeze Avocados
- Freezing Refried Beans
Travel Things
I’ve been gleaning Susan Branch’s book for ideas on places to visit in the Cotswolds. There’s some good ideas in there. 😉 I think the book someone really needs to write though is about all the tea shops in England!
- Explore more of the great state of Maine
- Go on a painting holiday
- Québec City {Accommodations and 1 tour booked!}
- Travel Overseas {All accommodations are booked!}
- Send the HH on a vacation
Marriage Things
We’ve had some really good walking weather lately.
Yesterday was a whopping 72 degrees here in Southern Maine. Can you believe it? Last week snow, this week we’re talking about unboxing the a/c units.
You gotta love Maine weather. Today there will be wind gusts of up to 35 mph. It’s a total crap shoot around here these days.
We are staying busy, working together on projects and hopefully this week I’ll be able to get the HH to crank out some more buoys for my next display. I really like the spring buoys though… So maybe we’ll just take down the giant eggs and leave the pastel colored buoys up a little longer.
- Keep my husband busy
- Date days
- Walk more
Secret Projects
I was finally able to get some “research” time in for project #1 so I was pretty happy about that. I still need something for the project {the HH is in charge of ordering the it} but I’m hoping to be able to share more about it soon.
It was a good week! Things are finally starting to warm up around here and I’m excited to be spending more time outside. Lucy and I actually layed out on the back deck for a bit yesterday. It was AWESOME.
How about YOU? What have you been working on lately? Anything new?

The Great Tea Rooms of Britian might be of interest to you. Not a comprehensive catalog of all the tea rooms in GB but a good start.

The bathroom looks fabulous!

I’m not sure if this would be practical, but I wonder if you could just paint the pipes white or black so they’d be exposed but look cohesive and blend in a bit.
Wendy Steele says
That’s a great idea, Mel!!!!!
