These glow in the dark Easter Eggs have been such a hit with my kids in the past I wanted to share the tutorial again for those of you with kids who are growing a little tired of the same of Easter Egg hunt.

This year instead of a traditional Easter Egg hunt on Sunday morning, I’ll be hiding Monkey Boy and The Girl’s Easter eggs after the sun goes down. They are teenagers, and getting them to go outside and hunt for candy filled eggs at the crack of dawn just isn’t as fun as it use to be.
So in an effort to bring back some of that fun, I’ve decided to make egg hunting a little more exciting this year by making my kids hunt for their Easter eggs in the DARK!
Supplies You’ll Need
- 12 plastic Easter Eggs
- 12 Glow Stick Bracelets
- Candy
Directions
Open plastic eggs, snap bracelets to activate and stuff the bracelets in to the Easter Eggs along with a treat.

I tried this, however I didn’t have enough bracelets so I tried it with glow-in-the-dark paint. That part didn’t work so well… But I took my 15 year old daughter and her friends along with my 11 year old daughter and her friends, and included my nieces 10 &7 and my 5 year old nephew to hunt eggs in the dark. Everyone had a blast. My friends and I might have hidden them too hard, (but this was really an issue because the glow paint didn’t keeop a charge), but it was a great way to get teenagers to hunt eggs again. And not only were they willing, but they had a great time! I will definitely be trying this again! From little kids to teenagers, it really worked for all of them!

Next time you try that, use a black light – it will keep the glow in the dark paint glowing.

If you really want to thrill the teens and get them out there hunting egg, sub some cash for the candy! Then stand back and watch the scramble!

Wouldn’t it be even cooler to break the glow sticks open and use the juice to paint the eggs? Then you could get multiple eggs out of one stick.

When my kids and their cousins were teens, Grammy and Papa had Easter Eve egg hunts after dark. First year was a surprise and the game was announced by handing them flashlights! The big surprise was the golden egg that had some big cash in it!

did this last year and the kids loved it. HOWEVER it was not easy getting the bracelets in the small eggs..would suggest using the larger eggs.

Thanks for this awesome idea. We are now going to do an Easter party for our teens and their friends in the park out back with the glowing easter eggs. We’re calling it Easter 2.0 since it’s just after most have done their easter egg hunts.

Our family has had glow in the dark Easter egg hunts the past three years. We started this because the grandkids had so many places to visit on Easter weekend. We would have our hunt on Thursday night. We also included glow in the dark balls, jump ropes, necklaces and of course the glow in the dark eggs. Last year we found light up grabbers that the kids had to use to pick up the eggs. Loads of fun!!
Now that our boys are getting older and need more challenging hunts, we are going to hide camo Easter eggs in the woods with
coins inside them and have the boys hunt with metal detectors. Got to keep it interesting!

This sounds like a lot of fun! When we were growing up, my Mom spent a lot of time on Easter Egg hunts. She filled the plastic eggs with strips of paper with a scripture reference on them. Some of them were filed with candy. Each of us had our own eggs to find, with our initials on them (so Mom could hide them in difficulty according to our age & height), we were not allowed to touch our siblings Easter Eggs… Once we collected all of our eggs we went inside, got out our Bibles & looked up each reference. They were all tied together with a key word or two which was our clue for our indoor search- which was our big gift. For example, one year all of my references were related to water, so I searched high & low around all sinks, water pump, etc, and finally found a new ballet bag I wanted in the washing machine! 🙂 It was loads of fun, and way better than a bunch of candy… We still did have a few eggs filled with our favorite candy. 🙂 It was so fun, I can’t wait to do it for my children someday. 🙂 Happy Easter!! Some of our eggs have print on them, have you ever used the glow bracelets inside of an egg with print? If so, were you able to see the egg glowing? We are having a glow in the dark egg hunt on the beach this year and I picked different patterns for the kids so it is equal since the oldest is 9 and youngest is 2.
