Things are seriously picking up in the greenhouse. In just a matter of a few more weeks I have a feeling the whole place will be filled with pots and we’ll have tomatoes and peppers all over the place.
Check out the chives! These babies are getting ready to flower. I planted a bunch more seeds over the winter and they are about 2 inches tall right now. It will be cool to get a fall crop this year.
Got gutters? Holy cow, they vegetables are growing like crazy. Click HERE to see what the gutters looked like one month ago. It’s nuts!
A spinach salad is on the menu tonight.
Swiss chard. We will be thinning this soon. We will keep a few in the greenhouse and move the rest to the garden beds.
The mesclun lettuce also needs to be harvested. I’ll have to call Francisco and see if he wants to do a barter with me.
Cesar salad anyone? Yes please!
Last week I cut the lettuce, and now the lettuce is growing back. Pretty cool!
My neighbor will be over today to help me pot up the rest of the tomato seedlings and hopefully some peppers too {if we have time}. I’m excited to get all the seedlings out of the trays and into pots.
The tomatoes will be planted outside in another 2 weeks or so. I think it’s still too chilly to set them out right now.
I think there must be about 75 – 100 tomato plants in this flat.
And last but not least. Basil. Basil. Basil. Who knew you could growfresh basil in April?
No matter how you do it, gardening is awesome!

I just read up on planting ginger. It doesn’t sound too difficult. Have you ever grown any?

Never grown ginger, and the lemon tree is in the greenhouse right now. I should probably move it outside though. 🙂

I have total greenhouse envy too! I have a tiny one that I got last year with four shelves that I love, but oh the trouble I could get into with yours! 🙂 I love the gutter idea and want to try some on the posts of our deck. I searched and couldn’t find a post talking about this, but did you drill holes in the bottom of them for drainage or do they do okay as is? We lost all of our greens to the bunnies, so I am trying to spare myself the frustration this year sticking to containers for my lettuce and spinach.

I did not drill holes in the bottom, I lined them with 1/2 pea gravel, added potting soil and then planted the strawberries. You can drill holes in the bottom of them though.

Holy Moly! 75-100 tomato plants?!? That’s a lot! Are you planting all of them or do you give some to your neighbors?
I’m just imagining the room that would take up when they are full grown… has to be massive! 😉

Your garden is beautiful and it makes me so eager to plant my garden here in the KC area.
I have a question for you: I started my tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash and bell peppers in my basement 4 weeks ago with the grow light you recommend. Now, the tomatoes and squash are getting yellow leaves. Is this most likely because they are too big and need to be transplanted outside, too much water, not enough heat (our basement is about 69-70 degrees). Just wondering if you had any ideas about what I am doing wrong. Thanks!
