Over the past 3 days, the chicken(s) laid 2 eggs. So tonight I cracked them open. Holy cow, they were both “Double Yolkers.” According to my chicken book, double yolkers appear when ovulation occurs too rapidly, or when one yolk somehow gets “lost” and is joined by the next yolk. Double yolkers may be laid by a pullet whose production cycle is not yet synchronized. Interesting.
Mavis’ 2 chicken eggs on the left and 7 farm stand organic eggs on the right. I know you can’t tell by the photo, but mine are much brighter (happier) than the farm stand eggs. Anywho, I’m cooking them up tonight. It’s a breakfast dinner this evening. Scones with sliced strawberries, maple sausage and eggs.
FYI: If you don’t hear from me within 24 hours, come check on me to make sure I have not keeled over from eating real eggs from a real chicken from my very real backyard.
