I have been busy planning my chicken “Meet and Greet” for the past few weeks. I made this lovely (if I do say so myself) 5′ by 6′ sign to hang up on the wall to let everyone know what was on the menu. I sent out a few invitations that simply said.”The hens are here….it’s time to BBQ.” Would you believe I had 2, count ’em 2, people call to ask if they needed to bring gloves. I love my chickens. I’d never think about bbqing them up. Not while they are laying of course! 🙂
So I had big plans on taking lots of pictures. If I had had my camera out just 3 hours earlier I could of showed you Mr. Hilly Billy and the handsome husband sweating to death on the deck bbq’ ing in the 85 degree heat with the sun beating down on them for like an hour and a half, cooking up some 40 lbs of chicken and sausages. But I was busy chatting away.
One of the perks of hosting a party for 40+ people is that some of your guests show up with stuff for the hostess, which would be ME. My mother was kind enough to bring me a 3 week supply of free shampoo/conditioner/lotion and sewing kits from the the hotel she stayed at last month. I mean really, why bring your daughter a nice potted plant or a sack of kale when you can give her free toiletries. Not for her to keep of course but to give away to the shelter. I mean granted there was some thought and time involved here: ach day she had to hide said toiletries in her luggage so the maid would bring her more, probably knowing full well that she was hording them and using her very own shampoo (bottle in shower might of been a dead giveaway).
I also received some plants; my favorite is the tiny colorful bouquet that one of my daughter’s friends picked for me out of her very own yard.
I discovered that apparently this woven side table that I’ve USED AS A SIDE TABLE FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS, in the eyes of my neighbor, is actually in fact a very sturdy seat in which one can eat their entire bbq’ dinner on. What do you say to a guy who is sitting on your basket?
Ahhh… here is another great picture: the crumbs from the carrot cake that I made. I mean really who wants to see pictures of fancy desserts when you can look at the crumbs.
Luckily there were 3 left over cupcakes with gummy egg yolks. I did take a picture of those for you to see.
Oh and then there is this stellar picture of the remains of my handmade chicken pinata that some strange lady (obviously too old to be playing with pinatas) is walking around my backyard with. What’s up with that?
So basically if you are going to host a big get together, take better pictures. Because it’s no fun looking at the crumbs.
Oh and a special note to Leopard Girl. If you don’t come to my next party (you’ve already missed the last 2…not that I’m counting but I am) I may just have to take you off my master list, you hear that? Huh? So save the middle of October for a shin dig at my place cause there’s a sausage stuffing party in the works.
