I’ve been making this sloppy joe recipe I got from my friend MamaJJ because my whole fam loves it, and because it is so much better than that crappity crap canned stuff. But then I decided to take it a step further and turn it into freezer meals, so I can just grab a bag from the freezer and have an easy peasy dinner in minutes!
PrintEasy Freezer Meals – Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
6 pounds ground beef
4 medium onions, minced
10 tablespoons of garlic or 20, minced
5 tablespoons chili powder
4 teaspoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
2 2/3 cups ketchup
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 cup water
Instructions
Saute the onion and hamburger in a large pot until browned. Stir in the rest of the ingredients, reduce heat to a simmer and cook until almost all of the fluid is gone {about 15 minutes}. Let cool and then divide into 4 freezer bags. Makes enough for 4 meals {1 bag feeds a family of four- 2 joes per person}.
To prepare from frozen, simply place the contents of one bag in a large skillet and heat to a low boil. Serve on warm sweet buns.

I agree homemade is so much better than the canned stuff. I also chop up (very tiny) veggies like kale (your favorite!), carrot, zucchini, etc. I just throw them in after the meat has browned. My family is used to seeing bits of green in their food so as long as they can’t taste a difference they are accepting. Love your freezer meals!

What kind of onions are you using in your sloppy Joes?
OneHundredDollarsAMonth.com says
I use whatever I have on hand, typically white or yellow.
Mavis Butterfield says
Just regular white onions from the grocery store. 🙂

I’m vegetarian so I used cooked lentils that I keep in the freezer instead of beef. They were delicious! Thank you for the recipe!

Do you drain the grease off from the beef before adding the onion?
Mavis Butterfield says
I use 97/3 beef when I make these and so I don’t drain the grease as there really isn’t much fat.

Sorry to be that person, but does anyone know the nutritional facts to this meal? My husband counts all his calories and is always hesitant to eat something unless I can tell him. XD

What’s the freezer “shelf life” for these? Thank you for sharing your recipes

Would you be able to freeze this with raw ground meat and just cook when thawed and ready?
