I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I have cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. Last week I pulled some weeds alongside the house and this week, well, we are so busy that just keeping up will be a challenge so I’m not going to worry about tackling any big projects.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. – I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that when you have 600 cupcakes sitting on your kitchen counter, you’re probably going to eat a few {or nine}. 🙂 All bets are off this week people. All bets are off.
3. Travel. So far this year The Girl and I have been to Boston, London, Paris and now Portland, Oregon. We are thinking about heading to Maine for a week this summer. How cool would that be? So if you’ve ever been to Maine and you know of some good rentals or towns/ sites we should visit, let us know.
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. – I’m keeping my mind off things by thinking up all sorts of fun gifts like this water bottle full of quarters for her for graduation. Stay tuned, I’m on a crafty streak. 😉
5. Get 3 new teeth. – I visited the oral surgeon last week and he says everything is coming along nicely. I’ve got one more appointment to go before I get the green light for teeth. 🙂 Yee-Haw!
6. Pay off my car. Lucy was so excited on the car ride over to doggy daycare that see had a little accident. Leather seats, they’re the best, aren’t they?
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Hey Hey Hey, check it out. 🙂 I’m almost done!! Maybe this week I’ll work on those two missing stars.
8. Family Day. Do one thing together as a family every Sunday. On mother’s day we all sort of lounged around {rested in our pj’s really} and then all came together for dinner around the kitchen table. 🙂
9. Secret Plan #1 – Working on it.
10. Secret Plan #2 Still plotting away.
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Oh happy day! I found a website with listings for Colonial Williamsburg. Checkout this one, ain’t she purty?
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. – Done! It’s pretty easy to spend an hour outside everyday when the weather is nice.
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

You must go to Maine, it is beautiful! Check out Camden, it’s a quaint little town on the coast. There is a beautiful Botanical Garden in Boothbay. Acadia National Park is lovely. There’s so much to do like hiking, kayaking, going out on a schooner, and a great art museum in Rockland called the Farnsworth. And Rockport Harbor is one of the prettiest places on earth.

I’m from Maine, I agree, it is beautiful. Mavis, if you are looking to have peace and quiet and save money, try the Baxter State Park area. The coastal areas are very pricey in the summer, gorgeous, but pricey. I live on the coast and there are some deals to be had just stay away from the tourist attraction towns and try some of the smaller neighboring town. This is how we do our in-state vacations.

Maine – YES!!!! Other than disneyworld for completely different reasons, our Maine vacation was our favorite.Maine is so beautiful. We went to Acadia and Bar Harbor. If you go here….eat at Jeannie’s Great Maine Breakfast.(There is a website if you search for it) We ate there twice. It is yummy! Strawberry and rhubarb jam right on the table!!!! Whale watching is also amazing. We did the tourist hikes in Acadia but then spoke with a ranger for a more rigorous hike through the trails and she was a great help and that was one of the best hikes EVER! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!

Try The Nautilus in Ocean Park Maine. I stayed there a few years ago and loved it, its right on the ocean and you are close enough to drive to lots of fun places.

I love the idea of twelve goals rather than a “resolution.” It just seems much more positive!
I just did the first wave of de-cluttering for a garage sale, and starting on a second wave. I really don’t like clutter!
Things I have a harder time letting go of tend to be books. I got rid of about 75 recently, but I’m sure there are more.

Years ago, my parents and I spent a few days in Bar Harbor, Maine. Most beautiful place I have ever been, and I live in Montana now. Nothing I have seen here can compare to the gorgeousness of that town. We did whale watching, traveled to a little island via sandbar, strolled around town, etc. I can’t wait until I can take my husband and children there.

Mavis, I always tell people that Maine is the most gorgeous state I’ve ever been to & I travel for a living! We stayed in Rangeley, Maine right on a lake and it was fabulous! Quaint, quiet & gorgeous. Have fun & you can’t go wrong in Maine!
