Yesterday the HH and I headed out for date day with plans to stop for lunch at the Jameson Point Lobster Company, but when we got there, we were a day early. Apparently opening day is TODAY… not yesterday. Whoops.
But as luck would have it, on the way to the lobster place we passed the sweetest little roadside flower stand and well, I just had to stop and take a look at all the plants.
Imagine my surprise when nearly all the plants at the stand, were the same plants I’ll be growing in my garden this year! Shasta daisy, lupine, foxglove, germanium, tulips, daffodils and pansies. I think the only thing there that won’t be included in my garden were bleeding hearts.
And all the plants were incredibly well priced. $4 for perennials! That’s less than the home improvement stores and nurseries are selling them for.
I LOVE this color combination of tulips!
And check out this sweet little pansy wreath I found on the garden shed door!
Inside the garden shed the owner had handmade signs, cards and even some needle felting {birds and garden scenes}. I should have taken more pictures!! Oh well, maybe next time. But I did go home with a few of the handmade cards {$3 each}.
And if the flower stand and handmade cards we’re cute enough…
Payment is via the honor system. You simply slip your money in the little wooden box next to the side of the garden shed. 🙂
I’ll have to go back later this summer… maybe there will be more flowers, or even vegetables, who knows. All I know is that I LOVE Maine. And I love all these little roadside stands that seem to pop up out of nowhere. AND, that people here trust you to pop your money in the slot.
So if you ever find yourself in Friendship, Maine this little stand is right next to the Friendship post office. You can’t miss it. There’s a little sign out in the owner’s front yard.
Have a wonderful day,
~Mavis

How adorable. I would definitely purchase my plants from them if I resided in Maine.

I love that cute little place I will be in Rockport End of June
I just may have to take a drive to friendship and check it out!!
My grandfather always had a huge vegetable garden in Saco and did the honor system for payment on his farm stand out front
As a kid I would say to him Grandpa what if people take the vegetables and don’t pay?
His answer was well I guess they needed them more than me!!
Good way to look at it !!

What, no day lilies??
That is so cute and love the name of the town too! $4 for a gallon pot of perennials is unheard of! Hope to make it to Maine one of these years 🙂

What a cute stand! All the plants look so healthy and reasonably priced too. I especially like bleeding hearts. They spread nicely and although I planted them many years ago on the wrong side of the house (in full sun), they come up every year for me…so forgiving! 🙂

Glad you’ve discovered this gem! I spend summers in Friendship and drive past the stand frequently. It’s run by two lovely sisters who call themselves the Shady Ladies. Their plants are beautiful and healthy, their craft items are adorable, and I always get a kick out of the creative, entertaining messages they write on the sandwich board outside.

Thank You, Mavis for stopping by and sharing your post!! My sisters & I love to garden & to share our passion with others!! Majority of our perennials are started from seeds saved right here in Friendship, seedlings are overwintered here in town & ready for the stand by spring. We have a variety of plants- annuals, perennials, veggies & herbs throughout the summer & fall. Our gifts, cards & bouquets change with the season.
Happy Gardening!!
