The other day Lucy and I worked in the garden tidying up and planting a few quick fall crops. This year we planted 2 rows of Swiss chard and 4 few kale plants. I figure with my renewed obsession with smoothies, both of these will make a nice addition.
I planted 2 rows of beets a few weeks ago and those are looking really good as are the leeks I planted earlier this spring.
The raised beds in the kitchen garden have been the big winners this year and I’m hoping we’ll be able to get another harvest in before the cooler temperatures settle in.
The endless summer bloomstruck hydrangeas in front of the white picket fence are still producing and full of color.
And the autumn joy sedum is about ready to bloom as well. I LOVE the flowers on this plant {and so do the bees!}. If you don’t have these in your garden, you might want to consider them as they are a nice burst of color towards the end of the season.
Plus they come back every year and they’re incredibly hardy too! Which is like an added bonus here in New England.
And let’s not forget the knee high bouquets of corn stalks. 🙂
Fall. It’s right around the corner, and you know what? I am ready for it!
How about you? Are you ready for sweater weather and hot cocoa?
I know I am.

Yes, I’m ready. Worst garden ever, and the previous 4 years weren’t too good, either, but not as bad as this one. 90+ degree temps, and no rain.

We had triple digits most of the summer with zero rain! Everything dried up!

Love the hydrangeas by the white picket fence!

Me too! 🙂

They are really beautiful!

Autumn Joy Sedum is easy to propagate by division or cuttings too. If you have a friend or neighbor who likes you, you might be able to score some for free! I’m enjoying 3 plants and rooting 4 more cuttings from a single plant I got at a plant swap in the spring.

Beautiful hydrangeas! Yes, I am so-o ready for fall!!

I love the fence and hydrangeas. Sedum joy lasts forever for me. It is so pretty the way it changes from pink to a darker color.
