If we aren’t having a full on adventure day, then this is what a typical day looks like around the house for me these days. I thought it might be fun to document how absolutely out of control the craft situation is at our house right now. To say my projects have taken over the entire house, would be an HUGE understatement. This is why we can’t have people over. Because seriously, where would they sit?
The plan is to have the basement turned into one giant craft space for me after the kitchen is completed. But for now, I’m hunkered down in the nook just off the kitchen while I work on getting everything organized down there. The idea is that once I get it all organized, I’ll snap some pictures, bring everything UPSTAIRS for a few days, and then get everything painted out {the floors and the walls} and then put everything back together.
It seems like a crazy plan I know, but everything is two steps forward and one step back around here these days. I just keep telling myself I only have to live like this for another 6-8 weeks and then the house will come together {at least the downstairs and basement anyway}.
8 am: Everybody needs a hobby, right? π
9 am: Getting wool ready for dyeing.
We have this amazing old double slate sink down in the basement and I LOVE it to bits. It’s enormous and it makes soaking wool so much fun.
10 am: Drawing patterns.
11 am: Getting dinner started {chili!} in the Crock Pot while the HH works on the tile backsplash.
Noon: Treat time for Lucy. These days she is alternating between alligators and cod skins.
1 pm: Naming wool bundles.
Can you call a bundle of wool Grandma’s Polyester Pants? Because that’s what this color looks like to me.
2 pm: Currently listening to A Piece of the World {and loving it!}.
3 pm: A walk along the beach at high tide.
4 pm: Inspecting my treasures.
5 pm. Fresh jammies and my seat for the night.
This month’s theme for finished pieces is pillows. Picking a specific category to work on seems to keep me organized. I haven’t decided if I’ll be working on tulips or whales for next month yet. I really want to get going on the new whale designs I’ve drawn out, but spring is almost here and so I feel like the flowers should come first. Gaaaa.
Just look at this forecast! I don’t know if I’m ready for warmer weather yet! There is SO MUCH to get done before gardening season hits {late April}. I don’t know about you, but I am hoping for at least one more major snowfall before spring arrives and I have to pack up all my indoor projects and trade them in for gardening gear.
Winter. I LOVE YOU. Don’t go!!
Alright. Enough yacking. I gotta go.
Peace out Girl Scouts, I hope you have a productive weekend,

Hope you will do a “day in the life” post again, maybe quarterly. Fun to get this glimpse of your days.
Can’t wait to see your basement craft room when it is finished.
You are a barrel of fun, Mavis!

Love. Love. Love this post.

1. That sink is AMAZING. It reminds me of the concrete pilas in Central America.
2. Where’s the slot for writing? Doesn’t a typical day involve blogging?
3. Your industriousness is inspiring.

I LOVED this Mavis. Glad to see you are in your pj’s by 5:00….i can usually make it until 6:00 but 5:00 would be better. Now, are you an early to bed or do you stay up late hooking?

Early to bed, early to rise. π Some days I’m even in my pj’s by 2!
Tina says
Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I take off my jammies, take a shower and put on clean jammies.

Been quietly following your blog off and on for many years. Stopping in to say that watching your journey has been interesting and entertaining. I’m especially loving your posts since you’ve moved to Maine. It seems you’ve found the perfect home/community. Congratulations and continued good living and good health to you and your family (including Monkey Boy wherever he may be – LOL).

You never know. Sometimes around here, when we think for SURE that Spring is here, then we get some wicked snowstorm(s) in March. If we DO get one more, I know for sure what I am going to do—stay home and make your Mississippi pot roast in the crock pot.
The first thing that popped into my mind when you mentioned tulips and whales was, tulips would be first because they so represent Spring and save the whales for Summer. Have a wonderful and productive day.

I was curious if there was a reason you chose 1892 in pattern you were tracing in the photo? That was the year my grandfather McDougall was born so it’s always been a little dear to me.

In order to minimize basement contents to be hauled up & down stairs, perhaps you could move items already in the basement to the half nearest the stairs, drape them in plastic sheeting while you paint walls & floor of the now-empty half. After that dries move everything to the newly-painted half, protect it with plastic sheeting again there while you paint the remaining walls & floor. After the second half dries you can do a permanent placement of furniture and crafting gear, necessitating only a single trip down the stairs for items currently located upstairs.

A Piece of the World was good! I just finished Snow Child if youβre looking for a last minute winter read. Takes place in Alaska. Iβm sure it would make for a good audiobook.
Dianne says
How did you like Snow Child? I have not started it yet.

Love seeing what you are up to. Good busy times. I’m also in my PJs as soon as I get home!

Mavis, You’re the only person I know who loves winter like I do — and for the same reason. I like the supposed to be easier pace (doesn’t always work) so I can concentrate on my favorite winter tasks. I’ve never identified with the awful cabin fever I hear about. I must admit, however, that my contentment at snuggling in for the winter depends on my DH being with me. I do tend to be restless when he has to be away.

My grandma had a polyester pleated skirt in that color! She loved that skirt. :-0
