One of my goals this year has been to go through all the old photos on my phone and print out the ones I wanted to keep forever and well, delete the rest.
Some of my favorite photos were places we visited while we were on vacation, like these ones from the Ale House Inn in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Inn was so cool, that even years later, The Girl and I still talk about the place.
And seriously, with a lounge area like the one above, how could you not love it? Brick walls, wooden floors, a hint of nautical décor, framed photos of the downtown area… the quaint little Inn was a total hit in our book and I wanted to make sure I told you about it in case any of you were ever planning a trip to Portsmouth, New Hampshire someday.
Seriously, how cool is that fireplace!?
The Girl and I stayed in one of their smaller rooms {a petite queen} and for us, it was absolutely perfect. Neat and tidy and simply furnished, what more could you possibly need when you are staying in a walking downtown area like Portsmouth?
I loved the framed paper cuttings on the wall. When have you ever seen that in a hotel? They even had a live plant in the room. Staying at the Ale House Inn was more like staying in a friends guest room than an Inn.
Check out this magazine rack!
And the best welcome gift ever, Lark Cookies! {Have you tried these? They are SO GOOD!}
We also loved the small but mighty bathroom.
So, if you are ever looking for a fun place to stay in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and want to stay in the Market District area near all the shops and restaurants, I highly recommend The Ale House Inn. It’s fun and hip and a super cozy place to stay. 🙂
And don’t forget to walk on over to La Maison Navarre around the corner for a bite to eat. Not only do they serve a delicious lunch, but their pastries are out of this world too. 🙂
Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It’s a great town!
Have a wonderful day everyone,
~Mavis

I love Portsmouth! I worked downtown in the late 90s – early 00s and it was wonderful. Wish I could have afforded to live there – we lived about 15 miles away in a cheapo duplex, and the commute in was a bear. But the lunchtime walks – or going out to eat on the decks – aaaaah. When the company moved over to Pease and out of downtown I didn’t feel so bad about leaving to move to central Maine.

This post makes me want to visit there! The sink looks like the one I have, but mine has a towel bar.

I lived in Portsmouth from 1997 to 2006 and I loved my cozy and historic neighborhood. But I learned about new to me places from YOU, Mavis. Thanks.
