While I didn’t set out to be, I was actually sort of a prolific hooker in April. It was a busy month for me, finishing up all my wool dyeing projects, getting sick and then tidying up the garden. Plus, I worked on a side project too, but I’ll share more about that next week.
Now that all my major rug hooking duties {dyeing wool, drawing patterns} are done for the summer/fall season, I should have more time to hook. I’d also like to get a few more of those larger rugs that I love to hook so much completed, and be able to offer patterns for them later this summer.
Time. On one hand it seems to move very slowly. But it also seems to be whizzing by these days too. It’s sort of weird if you ask me.
Here’s a little show and tell of all the rugs I hooked in April.
Yankee Doodle pattern by Lucille Festa
This is the THIRD time I have hooked this rug! I love that rooster! And the stars. And the flag. I really like the movement in it.
Flying at Sea pattern by Cammie Bruce
I loved hooking this little whale! The robin’s egg blue color I used for the sea was a new one for me, but I really like how all the colors came together in the end.
Primitive Sheep pattern by Maria Barton
Hands down, Maria has the best lambs. They are such a joy to hook. I added a flag to the side of mine and hooked it with patriotic colors.
Peace Rug pattern by MaggiesFarm1846
I decided to get a head start on my holiday pieces and when I saw this sweet little peace banner I knew I just had to hook it.
Small Dove pattern by MaggiesFarm1846
A matching pillow. How fun is that?
Pumpkin Make Do pattern by Mavis Butterfield
And last but not least is this little pumpkin head. A beginning hooker had asked if I would offer it as a kit and offer finishing directions so I said sure…And ended up doing a blog tutorial {you can find the directions on how to hook/finish this HERE}.
So it was a productive month. 3 rugs, 2 pillows and a make do. Not to shabby for this time of year if you ask me. I’ll take it. 🙂

I love these and seeing your dyed wool. I get jealous and wish for the romantic Maine life you have created – by the way, you should be very proud of that!
How hard is rug hooking on your hands? I run a craft club at my library and am always looking at introducing new crafts. I could maybe do small squares of this for technique. But some of the people who participate do not have strong or steady hands…something to think about.
