The Girl has been here the past few days and yesterday, we decided to take the puggle princess for a walk on the beach and get a slice of apple pie for breakfast from Dot’s Market in Lincolnville.
Because seriously, who wouldn’t love a slice of pie for breakfast {or an early morning walk on the beach for that matter as well}. It was a bit nippy out, that’s for sure, but we found a bunch of treasures on the beach so it was totally worth it.
While we were collecting driftwood and rocks along the beach we noticed the ferry coming in… and decided to hop on it for a quick ride to Islesboro. {The crossing is only about 20 minutes}.
It was Lucy’s first time on a ferry… and she was VERY excited. One of the ferry workers even gave her a little cookie. That dog, she makes friends wherever she goes. 🙂
We even spotted the Grindle Point Sailor’s Museum and Lighthouse. Fun fact: Cars were not allowed on the island until after 1933.
This was only my second trip to Islesboro. The last time I went was in January of 2020 so I haven’t actually been there when all {well, the few that there are} shops are open and the island is bustling with tourists, which is a good thing I guess.
Personally, I think the best time to visit Maine is after all the summer people have gone home and you’re left with a feeling of what it would be like to really live here.
I don’t think we passed a single car on the island that didn’t wave at us.
I love that sort of thing.
I think we found the town watering hole. {No Fireball in sight though. Interesting}
And we were nearly attacked by a shark.
But the best part about our impromptu trip to Islesboro yesterday, was a stop at the Island Market for their hot lunch special: Two chipotle chicken tacos with avocado, rice and beans. It was fantastic.
Take note: If you are looking for something that tastes a little like a dirty sock, mildew and Grandma’s musty basement… I have found the PERFECT drink for you! Spicy ginger brew by Maine Root. Whoa Nellie! The taste isn’t for everyone {although The Girl loved it}.
I think I’ll stick to their root beer. 😉
It was a good adventure. Pie, a walk on the beach, a ferry ride, sea shells and tacos. What more could you ask for on a cold and windy November day?
Maine. The way life should be.
Have an awesome day everyone, stay warm.

I have to laugh….when one lives in Maine….they call the tourists the “ Summer People.” We have a relative in Maine and when we visited, she call the tourists the summer people. Never forgot her phrase.

Was the funky log with a face the ‘shark’ that almost got you?
Because if not, we definitely need to hear the rest of that story.
Annette says
Does this mean the HH got a day off, or did you leave a list of chores for him?
Cheryl says
That log does look like a shark! Did Lucy enjoy her first ferry ride? I loved mine too. It was from Cape Cod to Martha’s Vineyard, and I loved every minute of it! Thank you for sharing your adventure! 😉

When I was blessed to live in Maine, Red Beach, just south of Calais, the locals called the visitors, “the people from away”. Best 2 years of my life.
