If you’re looking for something fun to make with the kids this week or maybe you just canned way too much applesauce last year and you’re looking for a way to use it up, homemade fruit leather is a super easy and healthy snack to make.
I made a batch last week in my COSORI Food Dehydrator on fruit roll sheets and it couldn’t not have been easier. I snapped a few pictures while I was making it so you could see.

Applesauce Fruit Leather Recipe
Ingredients
Applesauce
Instructions
Pour applesauce onto food dehydrator trays. Using a spatula, spread the applesauce 1/8 inch thick, making sure the layer of applesauce is even and smooth.
Set your food dehydrator to 135 F and dehydrate for 4-5 hours or until the fruit leather is done and no longer sticky to the touch.
Peel off the fruit leather, roll up & cut {you can also lay on parchment paper here, cut in strips & roll up fruit and paper like a homemade fruit roll-up!}. Store in an air-tight container. There is no need to refrigerate.
*Note This can also be made in the oven if you don’t have a food dehydrator. Simply follow the directions above but instead of spreading the applesauce on trays, you can spread it on a silicone liner {silpat} lined cookie sheet and pop in the oven @ 135F for the same amount of time.

I used to make rollups every year after applesauce season.
I sometimes heated the applesauce and then stirred in a pkge of jello for a flavor change. The kids loved them!

I’ve made lots of fruit leather over the years and because apples are plentiful here in the PNW, the applesauce is used as a base for other flavors. Just add blended berries or other fruits or juice before drying. It allows that special fruit flavor to make much more leather. Tasty!

Hey! Also from the PNW. I’ve never made fruit leather but would like to give it a shot. Lots of berries grow here, and I’m wondering, when you added berries, do you measure or just dump into the blender? Thank you!
Sue R. says
Jeri, I don’t measure the amount of berries added to the applesauce. Taste and add more if you think it needs more berry flavor. If I use raspberries/blackberries, I do strain some of the seeds out.

I’ve done this before and it’s so tasty

My Granny always made applesauce fruit leather for us for Christmas. She’d wrap it in wax paper and around that would wrap a $2 bill. It’s been years since I’ve made any for myself, but this made me want some!
