We had been contemplating buying a Ruggable for the living room for a while and thanks to your {mostly} favorable input, we finally took the plunge and ordered one.
My biggest question was are Ruggable rugs worth it? Was the quality of the rug going to match the price tag and was the rug really washable just like the company, and people said they were.
Our downstairs layout is kind of an interesting one. The entry, living room and eat in kitchen are all in one space.
Originally we weren’t going to have a rug, but then after getting the couch and a few other furniture pieces in place, we thought a rug might help define the “living” space a bit more.
And I think it does.
But had I seen the pattern we chose and the Ruggable and “padding” in person and would I have still bought one?
Hmmm. That’s a tough one.
I’ve bought many rugs {and rug pads} over the years and the Ruggable pad is by far, the thinnest one I’ve ever used.
My first impression was that the “pad” was a very large piece of half strength Velcro. My first impression was that the “pad” was a very large piece of half strength Velcro. I also felt like the “padding” could have been just a wee bit larger.
And the Ruggable itself? Super thin. That was a bit of a surprise too. But then again, this is supposed to be a washable rug.
A 6’ x 9’ washable rug mind you, but the whole idea behind a Ruggable is that you are supposed to be able to toss it into the washing machine… So obviously it’s not going to be on the chunky side.
So are Ruggable rugs worth it?
While we both like the softness and the pattern of the rug and think it helps define the space, the jury is still out. I said I would report back if we bought one, and so that is my honest to goodness first impression.
I guess sometimes you have to live with something a while until you know for sure. I suppose only time will tell if the washable feature will outweigh the {understandable} thinness of the rug and be worth the price tag in the end.

I noticed the Costco by me now is carrying some Ruggable rugs.

I thought they might be great and was excited to see them at costco…but when I looked at it I realized they aren’t really ‘rugs’ more like a patterned floor cover. I have entry rugs by the doors inside (we live in the country so there is always dirt) and thought something that was made to be washed would be better. But I couldn’t get over the feel or honestly the look. It’s something that looks good from 10 feet but when you get closer it just doesn’t cut it. My current rugs I’ve had for over 19 years and I was them semi regularly and they are doing just fine.
I suppose if you need/want a big rug that is washable it might be better than nothing.

We were not in the market for a cushier rug, but they do now make thicker pads that are more cushy if you want them. They are more expensive though.

I’ve had a Ruggable in my main living area for four years. I have three small dogs and accidents happen – food, mud, illness. I just washed my Ruggable yesterday – front loader, cold water. Comes out fine every time. I don’t put it in the dryer however, just drape it over some chairs and it dries in a few hours.

I wonder if you could put a pad under the pad to give it the loftiness of a good wool rug. For Lucy’s comfort of course lol. The pattern is very pretty.

Here’s what I wonder about these rugs – how does the vacuum handle such a thing rug? Do you use the ‘rug attachment’ of the vacuum, or the ‘bare floor’ attachment to pick up loose dirt (and in my case – dog fur!) in between washings?
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ve only used the vacuum on it once and I used the “bare floor” mode and it worked great.

its a trade-off. with 3 big dogs that bring in dirt and shed and cats that puke, throwing it in the washing machine is a BIG plus, not to mention the expense at having regular rugs cleaned. so for me spending over 600.00 to have my area rugs cleaned as opposed to just throwing them in the washing machine is a no brainer. i still use my better rugs though not as many and the ruggables in high traffic areas and where the pets like to gather. the other plus is ruggables is always offering deals over the holidays (memorial day and columbus day).

I stand by my all positive reviews of Ruggables! I have so many of them now, as I have a senior dog who just cannot handle my wood floors without slipping. I opted for the thicker pad for most of the rugs, which makes a HUGE difference, including the rug by my kitchen sink, as the thicker pad really helps my back. And, all of my rugs and runners have been washed and they clean up beautifully! Vacuuming these rugs is a breeze, too!
