Miss Lucy and I have managed to make it to the beach every day since we’ve been here. And let me tell you, it feels SO NICE to be able to go walking again everyday and see to new things.
Lucy is LOVING it. She’s been sleeping really well too and I’m hoping that by taking her on long walks everyday, it will help her shed a few pounds. She’s gotten to be a little overweight {no thanks to the HH always slipping her extra bites} and she could stand to slim down a bit.
One of the interesting parts about being able to visit a sandy beach every day though, are all the things that wash ashore… Or more likely, the things people leave behind.
And with the busy summer season just around the corner… You know there will be a lot more treasures that pop up. Who knows we might end up hitting the jackpot!
It’s not even really tourist season yet and already people are leaving behind kitchenware. Maybe I should start collecting it. After all, when we sold our house, we sold it furnished and now we don’t even own any flatware. I wonder how long it would take to get a whole set?
Buoys. Those are a rare treat. And while I don’t currently have a use for one… We brought it back home with us.
I love it when families leave behind beach toys for other kids to use. I only wish there was a dedicated spot/bin for them so people wouldn’t leave them on the bulkhead or in the parking lot.
I’m pretty sure any young kid with an entrepreneurial spirit and a lemonade stand could make a small fortune collecting discarded beach toys at the end of each day during peak tourist season, repackaging them and selling them at a steep discount at their stand.
The biggest find lately though… Was a gorgeous red and white beach blanket. And YES, I totally brought that back “home” with me!! The HH just rolled his eyes at me when I came back with it though.
I was able to find it online and found out it sells for 55,00€ {about $59 USD!}.
Seriously though, you never know what you’re going to find. And who knows, one of these days I might find something super amazing. Have you ever found anything super cool at the beach before? Or maybe you’ve left something behind? Do tell.

No beach finds here, but I was running errands the other day and had multiple stops. I have parking lot finds. $0.25 at my 1st stop, $0.01 at my 2nd stop, and $0.11 at my 3rd stop. I only made 3 stops and what luck to find a coin or two at each stop. Made my day even though it was $0.37 total. Just the joy of finding something in the parking lot that is not trash like your favorite floss picks, which I now notice everywhere! Thanks.

I know you stated the Aga went with the house—but what about your kiln?
Mavis Butterfield says
I kept the kiln.

Brianna, there is a used dental floss pick in parking lots, etc. epidemic in this country! We spent 2 weeks overseas and I saw not a single discarded floss picks there, get off the plane here and BOOM!…..old nasty floss picks right at the airport. 8-(

Look up John’s Beachcombing Museum for the story about a guy in WA state who has 50 years of beach finds displayed for all to see. You could start one on the East coast!

I must of left my favoirite water shoes on a beach on Maui. I hope someone with a size 7foot found them. They weren’t inexpensive.
I miss them.

I enjoy found items like the beach blanket. I think with curb picked/free piles/found items we could most likely have everything we need without using stores for a long time. Fun to see what you’ve found so far.

I say it’s time for the HH to get a metal detector!
Mavis Butterfield says
He has one. 🙂 I should send him out with it and see what he comes back with.

I see jewelry in your future!

You should make windchimes from the found items. Such as a bouy with the key, spoon and other items hung to clink against each other in the sea breeze. Then hang the bouy’s in random trees around town. Guerrila windchime art. 🙂

Mavis, did the T Rex ever sell? Speaking of jackpot beach finds!!!
Mavis Butterfield says
No, not yet. I think I might frame it and hang it on the wall.
Mavis Butterfield says
Try your local garden center. 🙂

I spy a heart shaped rock by that toy shark! Love that beach blanket. Strange to forget that!

Did you leave all those beautiful fancy canning jars? ENQUIRING MINDS WANTS TO KNOW!
Mavis Butterfield says
Nope!
