On our way back from picking up our weekly loaf of bread from Head Tide Oven last week, we stopped by Beth’s Farm Market in Warren, Maine for the first time and whoa Nellie was it AWESOME! Seriously awesome.
Hanging baskets galore, flower, veggie and herb starts in the greenhouse section off to the side of the main market.
Bins of farm fresh vegetables that were harvested THAT MORNING ready for customers. I mean, who needs a grocery store like refrigerated produce section when it can all be harvested and purchased by oodles of customers by the end of the day?
Look at all this goodness! Beth’s Farm Market. HOLY COW!
Fresh vegetables stacked high and arranged beautifully, the prices written on shingles, does it get any better than this?
Look at those beautiful heads of cabbage! Apparently Beth’s Farm Market grows more cabbage than any other farm in New England.
Tasty farm fresh strawberries $7.25 a quart.
Pop-Corn $2.25 an ear!
Just toss an ear in a paper bag and pop it in the microwave. I’ll have to remember to get one the next time we go back and give it a whirl.
They even sell oysters! I wish I had known about this place when Mrs. HB was here. She could have loaded up and tried shucking her own.
Dried herbs, pickled beets, relish, pickles, applesauce, you name it, they’ve got it.
And of course let’s not forget about the honey.
And local beef too. 1 pound of grass fed beef from nearby Caldwell Farms {only 60 miles away} goes for $8.99 a pound.
Don’t need any ground beef this week? They’ve got a bunch of other cuts of meat to choose from in the freezer section. 🙂
They also make their own bread, doughnuts and other baked goods daily.
I snuck a peek into the kitchen and spotted fresh pies cooling on the countertops. 🙂 Another source for summer pies… WahoooO!
Freshly picked berries rolling in the back door.
And would you believe they already had sweet corn for sale? According to the sign the corn seed was planted on March 25th. Holy canolies, these people really know how to grow their vegetables. Maybe I need to get a summer job there so I can learn a few of their tricks.
I am SO GLAD we found this place and I can’t wait to go back.

Hi Mavis,
I have a brief PSA regarding some of the wildlife you mentioned in your weekly goals update: woodchucks (or groundhogs as we call them here) are extremely resourceful & destructive creatures. We have a female that has tunneled underneath our outbuildings more than once to nest/give birth in the late winter/early spring months. They also tear through a garden with ease. I’d keep a close eye on your kitchen garden & barn since they are natural-born diggers. Love the farm market, by the way!

Now that’s my kind of market, I would be in shopping heaven.
I’m so in love with Maine, so very different from the Deep South.
