Thanks to a hot tip from OHAM reader Leah, last month we were able to score some seriously good deals on produce from a place called Big Papa’s Fruit & Vegetable in Littleton, New Hampshire.
Deals like a 40 pound box of ORGANIC Bartlett Pears for $20, a 50 pound sack of Yukon Gold potatoes for $23 and a 20 pound box of sweet potatoes for $8.99. Talk about some seriously awesome deals!
Big Papa’s Fruit and Vegetable Stand is only open three days a week {Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays} and the prices and offerings are always changing {you can click HERE to see what they currently have in stock}. A store that’s only open three days a week…. that’s pretty unusual. But I guess if you’re dealing in fresh produce, you’ve got to keep the stock moving, right?
50 pounds new potatoes for $16? I’d say that’s a pretty good deal!
One of the super cool things about Big Papa’s Fruit & Vegetable, is that at the end of business on Saturdays at 2 pm sharp, they hold an auction and sell the remaining produce to the highest bidder. We were there on a Thursday, so we didn’t get to see any bidding action, but still, if I was a local, you can bet I’d probably show up each week to score some deals.
Places like the Big Papa’s Fruit & Vegetable stand, they’re kind of hard to come by these days, and when you do find them, a lot of the produce stands are filled with so many overpriced hippy dippy products, that you just want to roll your eyes and walk out {I’m talking about things like beet juice shots, fancy lotions, $12 bars of goat milk soap, organic farm raised dehydrated sea weed chips, $25 a pound bags of roasted coffee beans from the hilltops of the Himalayan mountains etc.}.
What I liked about the Big Papa’s Fruit & Vegetable place though, was that they were just there to sell a boatload of fruits and vegetables in a short amount of time to people who don’t need fancy end caps filled with overpriced merchandise to stroll by, or a wine and cheese tastings in the deli department. {You know what I’m talking about, those stores… that get the prices they do because they want to make sure their customers are getting an experience.}
Big Papa’s Fruit & Vegetable in Littleton, New Hampshire. It’s my kind of place.
No frills. Just good prices. 😉
So, if you ever find yourself near the White Mountains of New Hampshire, stop on by. You’ll be glad you did.
Have a great Thursday everyone,

I LOVE places like this! We lived near one in Nampa, ID years ago and sadly it has closed down now. I loved going there and getting boxes of tomatoes for $20 and canning sauce made from them. And their produce was also so much fresher than the stores. Potatoes from them were freshly picked and tasted amazing! These types of places are becoming more rare and it is sad to see.
