Last week for date day the HH and I met up with The Kiln Guy and The Chef for brunch at Bintliff’s Corner Brew in Gardiner, Maine.
This was the first time there for the four of us and wholly cannolis people, it did not disappoint. In fact, everything was so perfect, it was crazy.
Usually when you try a new place you look at the menu and kind of say, oh that sounds good… And then cross your fingers. But I had read the rave reviews and had seen photos of their dishes online so the bar was set pretty high.
I ordered the asparagus and prosciutto benedict. The HH ordered the Librarian omelette and the Kiln Guy and The Chef ordered the baked reuben in filo. While the HH was ordering, I asked him to get me a mint tea {I always get mint tea when we go out because I know that’s the one tea that won’t have caffeine in it}.
He came back to the table though and handed me a mug and said I’d have to get it myself though because there were just too many options. And I’m so glad he did because while I was standing there in awe… I spotted a tea I had never seen before.
Harney and Sons Victoria London Fog. I LOVE London fog tea!!! I used to drink about 20 cups of caffeinated tea a day. And then about 5 years ago I started getting headaches and all the sudden I couldn’t drink caffeinated tea anymore.
Yada yada yada… For some weird reason, nowadays I can manage about 1 cup of caffeinated tea a week without getting a headache.
So I went for it and tried the Harney and Sons Victoria London Fog. And let’s just say, it was love at first sip. It was HANDS DOWN the BEST tea I have ever had in my entire life. {And I’ve had a lot of tea!}.
Check out that reuben!!!
And the HH’s omelette!! It was beautiful.
And my eggs benedict {with asparagus and prosciutto} was perfection on a plate. Even the toast was crazy good {and it even had a hint of maple syrup in it too!}.
Beautiful food in a beautiful setting… Does it get any better than that?
I love it when you find a new spot that hits it out of the park. We can’t wait to go back!

Now I am craving a Rueben! It is one of my favorites, but that one looks good and over the top. I never thought about a Rueben in phyllo rather than the traditional rye bread. The prices are really good too, especially for a sandwich that is actually filled with huge amount of meat. The decor is unique, a little too busy for my taste, but I love all the green plants and the unique commercial whisk beater lights. It is a bit of a mix of industrial, rustic, repurposed, farmhouse, eclectic, very interesting.

That place looks lovely! I might have to move to Maine. After all, I’d have your list of wonderful places to visit!

This looks incredible – I would love to try all three of these meals. YUM. I love the multiple Benedicts. I’d have to have a different one each trip there. 😀

Looks lovely and the prices seem incredibly reasonable. I can barely get a meal from the Burgerville (local chain) drive thru for that, and it doesn’t include the atmosphere and certainly not as good.
Linda Sand says
Man, how would I pick which one to have first?!!!

That Victorian London Fog tea is my absolute favorite! You can buy it in bulk to refill the tin. I like my tea, but I can only drink 1 cup of black tea per day (and usually before 1:30 p.m.) because I’m quite sensitive to caffeine.
Andrea says
Wow! That menu looked spectacular! I’m now craving French toast!
Hattie says
Is the London Fog tea that you loved, come in a decaf version? I would love to try it if it does come in decaf.
Mavis Butterfield says
I have not seen it in decaff… Otherwise I’d be drinking it 24/7.

Mavis, you have probably just doubled or tripled Amazon’s sales of London Fog tea…
and I’m usually a caffeinated drinker. But this sounds lovely.
Sue says
Sounds like that tea is a winner. Do they ship it?
Mavis Butterfield says
Amazon sells the tea as does teh Harney and Son’s website. 🙂 Try it Sue, you’ll love it.

I only drink tea. I love tea. But….sigh….I wish I could stomach Earl Grey. But to me, it tastes like soap. :::::shudder::::: (The restaurant looks fab, tho!)
Carolina Cooper says
Tracy have you tried Lady Grey tea? Different flavor from the Earl. You might like it!
Sue says
What a cosy place to have a meal, everything there looks so comfortable.
Love that long table under the window. Nice to have places to enjoy with friends.

Holy moly that Rueben looks amazing. That’s what I would have picked for sure (or maybe the corned beef hash).

We recently met my in-laws at Cheesecake Factory. I ordered tea, and they brought out a lovely sampler box of NUMI teas. Have you tried any of them? I had the orange spice and it was delicious! I’d love to try the London Fog!
Mavis Butterfield says
I have had Numi teas! And I miss the Cheesecake Factory. I love their cobb salad. Lucky you.
Jayme says
I would love to be a tea drinker, I’m a coffee girl but lately it’s been giving me heartburn. Which tea would you recommend that I try?
Mavis Butterfield says
London Fog of course! 🙂

Definitely adding this to our list of date day places to visit! I reached out to them & they can modify some of the food to make it gluten free. Hooray!

Harney & Sons has the best tea ever. You need to try their Paris one. I always order loose leaf and have 2 of their strainers.

Sounds like you might want to take a trip to Harney & Sons in Millerton, NY. There, they have a lovely tea shop with ALL of their teas. I’ve taken my students there (we were working on an exhibit on coffee, tea & chocolate) and were able to tour the factory as well. My personal favorite is the black tea with vanilla and bergamont, Paris. It is the closest that I’ve come to finding a tea that I like as much as Mariage Frères Marco Polo tea.
The Hudson Valley makes for a great mini-vacation. You might even like the sheep & wool festival that is held every year in Rhinebeck.
