Small menus. They seem to be a thing here in Maine. And we like it.
The HH and I recently discovered Bird & Co. in Portland, Maine and to put it mildly, if you live in Southern Maine or will be traveling here soon, this place deserves a spot on your “must visit” list.
There is good, and then there is HOLY COW this is SO GOOD you can’t stop thinking about it and your wife gets tired of listening to you talk about how good it was and you go back within a week and do it all over again. 😉
The HH, he is in LOVE with the tacos at this place. And you know what? I am too.
In fact we have plans to meet up with The Kiln Guy and The Chef there this weekend. That will be our THIRD visit to the place in less than 10 days. Yes. The tacos are THAT good!
You wouldn’t think a place that focuses on selling tacos would be a good concept for a restaurant, but oddly enough, it works.
I think my husband is determined to try every single item on their menu.
The way I see it, winters are long here in Maine and everyone needs a hobby. And trying different taco variations seems to be his “hobby” this winter. Well that and making wooden buoys. 😉
The beef and cheese taquitos. 10/10. These are the real deal and the jalapeno garlic dipping sauce was insanely good. Like so good, if they bottled it up I would buy it an drizzle it over half the things I ate.
Have I mentioned how good the tacos are here? The presentation is spot on too.
There are french fries in the California taco. Which seems really weird, but it works.
The Banh Mi taco.
The jerk chicken taco.
Street corn chicken taco.
The HH’s favorite taco to date; The Tijuana taco. Shredded pork, cheese, onion and cilantro in a grilled corn tortilla shell with a side of au jus dipping sauce.
Perfection in every bite. The HH said he wouldn’t change a thing.
And my favorite taco so far… The sweet plantain. Fried plantain, beans, salsa with jalapeno garlic sauce. Man oh man it’s good.
Going out to eat is such a crap shoot these days and it’s always nice when you find a winner.
Bird & Co. Tacos in Portland, Maine… Go check them out! You’ll be so glad you did!

Taquerias have for a long time been a very common type of restaurant in California, and also everyone has their favorite “taco truck” (food truck). Mine parks down the road at the gun club and all the locals drive up in their work trucks at noon to get lunch.

California burritos have french fries too. It was a favorite in my youth in San Diego.

Those all look fantastic and would work my way through the menu as well. I’m really curious as to what sweet potatoe crouton texture is like in that bird salad. Dang I’m really, really craving Elotes / Esquites salad right now.

Has he tried the chorizo and potato ones? That’s the one I’d have to try first!

Looks like I’m off to Portland for taco’s soon. That menu looks amazing!
If you haven’t tried Duckfat in Portland yet, I highly recommend it. Also, if you’re looking for a special occasion place, The Grill Room & Bar is fantastic. I wanted to propose to whoever is in charge of mashed potatoes there.
